Check out the seller's website. It's one of those prestige luxury car dealers...

A classic is a classic, and the Mk1 golf, especially that one, is a classic, people will pay it.

Costs more than it did when new!

For that money I'd expect more details about the 'full' nut and bolt restoration - like a re-con engine, all bushes and suspension etc, I'd hope it's not just clutch, brakes and tyres changed.

And the tool cannot spell concours.

In comparison, IF Dec was to put his Nova Sport (we all know the rebuild that has had) up for sale with the same tag, would it be questioned ???

Humm, i love the mk1 Golf's and i would have one just like that if i was buying one, but i still think that price tag is a bit too high, I'm sure if you bought a shell and built it from scratch it would be less??

Good question matey, I was thinking the same thing ;)

From what I can tell it's a standard 1982 Golf GTi, nothing special. if it was ultra low mileage (i.e. -1000) then I might understand the price tag, but an 80k restored example it is (be interested to see details of the rebuild :wtf: )

There appears to be alot more demand for exceptional Golfs (mk1-2) and Escorts (mk1-3) and even more so for the special editions (Mexico's, RS Turbos, GTi's etc.)

I've never seen a standard Nova which is rare or special enough to compete with some of the VW / Ford boys, so have no idea how to price my car in comparison

Fact is Dec, how much would it cost to make your car to the spec it is right now? £7000-15000? I'm not sure, but we all know the cost's can escalate to silly figures, so thats what you need to think about.

With this factor in mind if I was looking to buy instead of build a nova Sport i would pay £7000+ for something like your car.

Scott

PS: I know the prices of VW's holds well, and that they are not cheep to fix, but i cant see it costing that much to build one to that (or close) standard

Dec, why not contact the seller on pistonheads and get him to value your sport? Telling him youve seen the golf hes advertised and youve got a similar restored nova.

Depends how you look at it mate, there are few people who can build a true concours car (some may think they can  ) and if my old man was to have charged me a daily rate for his help on the build I'd have been looking at a £50k+ bill  lol

hes a trader, its standard for them to stick a 100% mark up on a car theyve bought in. in the hope some rich/ stupid person is in the market for one. give it a month and it will drop, then you could go offer a more realistic price (about 8-9k imo) and i bet hed still make a proffit.
