As some of you may know I drive a nova fitted with an 18e from a mk1 astra gte.

Searching for an engine for my next project nova I stumbled across another 18e
which was for sale for peanuts, so I bought it obviously.

After stripping the engine down to check the general conditon I found it to be very sound.
I've got new shells, bearings, seals, rings and arp rod-bolts to go in to refresh the bottom end anyway

My main query is what are the actual differences between the 1.8's and 2.0's?
I know that they share the same block so this leads me to assume that it is the stroke
which differs them apart from one another?
Or is the 2.0 item a wider bore aswell?

Also which cylinder head is used on the 2.0? I know that the 18se was fitted with a head
with 33mm inlet ports opposed to the 18e's 36mm's.

Eventually Im looking at going down the forced induction route with this engine
in the form of a supercharger.
I've got most of the bits- frontera FMIC, stainless pipe for boost pipe,
custom aluminium twin v-belt pulley and my 3rd gen cooper s charger should be here next week :thumb:

The area which I require guidance in is how far do I need to lower the CR by to run safely?
Or does this depend on too many other factors to say? i.e. how much boost is being run

Also which is a better, more reliable method of lowering the CR? Pocketed pistons or
"head gasket sandwich" job?

Does anyone have any previous experience with tuning these engines as there are
many questions that I'd like to pick a well experienced brain with!

Thanks in advance for any help / comments! :thumb:
