Ive just bought a new car with no head unit and origional speakers front and rear, i will fit my old head unit in but need help matching the wires up.

The head unit has a plug on the end that tells you what wire is what, but the wires in the car are different colors, hear they are:

red, blue, yellow, black, 2 x green, 2 x white/brown, brown (slightly thicker than the rest), green/grey, brown/yellow, brown/blue.

could someone tell me what these cables all do so i can wire it up, i would have thought all novas have the same color cables.

best to get circuit tester, i was wiring in an old style sierra head unit into a fiesta and red smoke (yes red) started comin from the vents even though it was wired up correctly in accordance with what the colour wires should have been. radio buggered, and when i got off my arse and looked for my circuit tester, it turned out the wiring was faulty. better safe than sorry.

Have you got it sorted yet or would you still like me to look into it?? I have a rough idea because i did my own not so long ago, but i dont want to give yo the wrong details!!

Big brown is prob Earth.

The striped ones Brown/white will be the standard front speaker cable.

The others i will have to look into.

I was going to say Red was + Black was - and Big brown was Aerial, (unless you've already go it)

Basically you've got 2xwires because of the Left and Right side of things, You'll have to guess if they're front or back.

I'm also guesing that brown/blue connects to the ignition, so it's not permanenlty on.

I'll have a look at my rear speakers and see what colour goes onto them.
