Matt's matt black track project!

Hi everyone,

Been hanging about on here for a few weeks now, reading people's project threads whilst looking for my own!

Well I bought one a few weeks ago...

Found it on Pistonheads, a MK1 SR engined ex-rally/track car, looked ok from the pics, nothing a bit of a tidy wouldn't sort but had the all important roll cage already fitted :)

So, the deal was done and I drove it all the way back from Hinckley in Leicestershire back to Bath, about 130 miles without any problems. Slight oil leak (!) but that can be sorted.

Once home and cleaned, it dawned on me how terrible the paint job was. Note to self - never ever look at a car in the rain :(

So the plan is to build a cheap(ish) track car doing as much of the work myself where possible.

I decided that the body had to be sorted, underneath the ****e paint job was a fairly solid shell, its been welded in the past but is ok in the right places.

The decision was made to re-paint it myself. With rattle cans. Those who care about paint condition and general body work should look away now lol I decided matt black as the paint colour with gloss black bumpers, mirrors, spoiler etc. Here are a few pics to show how it started and how it looks now...

Next couple of jobs is to paint the inside, get some different alloys to paint gloss black and then maybe a C16XE ready for Combe in September :)

Ah Matt with the Matt car lol All I want to do is get chalk and scribble on it :D
The paint suits the hatches better imo :)

Matt ( as in the colour not your name) white wheels would look good also.

Engine is absolutely mint and runs like a sewing machine. I want it back!lol

Shame that such a nice engine is going into my poor excuse for a Nova lol It will hopefully be going in the end of this month/beginning of next. Can't wait!

Bit more of an update from me, hopefully the next one will be with that nice XE above in my engine bay :)

In the last few weeks i've bought a set of 6-spoke Astra SXI wheels that i'm spraying gloss black. Then I decided that I didn't like the matt paint, so its going back to white again lol.

I was hoping another XE would land on my lap in the last 24 hours, so I could keep this one!lol

Looking good in white dude - you can paint the bay up when we rip the 1300 out - you will have a 30 minute window!:)
