Right guys,
im pi$$ed off of my brother "Borrowing" my wheels, and returning them with bald tyred.. .
what do i need to do the 5 stud conversion?
is it hard?
ive only ever seen it done to nova's with lets and xe's in, can i do it on my 1.4 spi?
Cheers
Your have to **** about with it all due to the stuff being big block. Rear is easy, eather turn your drums into swiss chease or convert to discs.
Front is a right pain. Your eather have to cut and shut some shafts or find another way.
search tho!

lol whaaat?! ive only got 4 sets!? lol
You'll need custom shafts, going from a small block inner cv, to a big block outer cv. You'll have to convert the rear beam to disc.
Just dont let him.

im thinking triple figures all ready for the conversion, hmm,
might have to leave it, and sell all my spares... only need 4 on the car and one spare realisticlly,
Custom shafts will have to be made, so you're looking £150+ min for them.
Then everything else, why dont you just tell him not to be a dick.

haha hey , thts cheaper lol
Cheers peeps,
Thats a min, it could be 300notes, but cvs say £30 2nd hand,+ hubs £40/50 +brakes (5stud ones cally or cav) £50-80 + rims £100-200 +rear set up £50-100.
Thats a rough work out..

ive just converted my x16xe corsa to 5 stud, everything went together really well but the main issue ive had was when it was built up the short pass shaft seemed to long so having to use a nova gsi shaft instead of the corsa one that was on it
davie
Thatsd cause corsa shafts are to long and wont fit...

cost me 30 for the front v6 brakes and hubs and a corsa hub and carrier to convert my 52 combo going to use the cally outer cvs on my dti shafts

also davie did the big cvs go straight onto the shafts mate as thats now my only issue

Bargain there.

Big block cvs wont fit small block shafts aswell you can work out the right teething. Nova outers are 28teeth. I dont think any big block outers come in that (i have looked before)

all from a local scrap yard from a vec v6 sri 288mm but i have some c20xe shafts spare i was going to try a outer cv on a spare 1.7 dti shaft i have i took the v6 hubs and have them to my friend with the corsa hub as corsa cs use same bearing dimensions as corsa bs and novas surprisingley gonna try tomorrow to fit the outers then go from there why has my van got small outers then being a 1.7 . . . Interested in seeing how davie has sorted his
If it a nova van? If not then no it will be big block. You didnt say what van it was.

combo 1.7 dti 2003 but use same hubs as corsa bs and novas
Oh, then the cv will be small block.
Dont know what the gear box in on one of them tho so cant say if its big or small block.

will update tomorrow but if people use nova gte shafts and big block inners why cant i use diesel shafts with big outers
They dont, they use cavmk2 inners, which have small block shafts but use a big block inner, so the cv has a big block end, but the inner bit has small block size and teeth/splines.
You cant just put a big block cv on a gte shaft.

tried today on the spare shafts the big outers DO NOT FIT ON DIESEL SHAFTS
I know. Derv shafts are still small block.

yes benn wondering how david has sorted his, i have pm'd him so will add when i sort out what needs doing,
loadsa help if your using big block but nobody seems to have covered 5 stud small blocking yet so hopefully it will help others out
I spend ages looking for the cv books at work trying to workthis out.
As i wanted to use my gsi/gte shafts which have a 28spilne end and have a big block cv to run the 5stud.
No big block outers that i could find thru the whole gm range have a 28spilne.
Thats why i run safts that are big block both ends.

that means i need to check up as corsa c cdti sris are 5 stud meaning i can use small block shafts still but buy new 5 stud hubs which will be a direct fit
1, is that engine a small block?
2, its all about the spilens on the cvs, i'm sure i checked corsa c's cvs and they wernt the same.

mine is a corsa c basically so should be ok will make a few calls monday

i meant corsa sri cdti should in theory be direct fit to my combo
Once again no. not if the spilens on the shafts/cvs dont mate up with the nova stuff.

i have tried the standard combo di shaft in a corsa b hub and all fits sweet,
i may have my hubs redrilled (well a spare set anyway) but i will need spigots made,
my first option is as stated corsa c sri cdti hubs

You can't redrill the std hubs as the 5 stud PCD is 110mm, the hub isn't big enough to be able to do it, the holes would end up 1/2 of the edge of the hub.
It might fit the hub, but it wont fit the shaft...

mines is a corsa sport fitted with a x16xe with f15 box, on the driverside its a standard sport shaft, standard sport inner cv joint with mk4 astra diesal outer cv joints as they use a small shaft to a big block hub, on the passengerside im using the standard sport shaft, again with standard sport inner and astra mk4 diesal outer but when together it was about an inch to long so ive ordered a nova gsi shaft which is about an inch shorter to go on it, mines is standard corsa shafts on to mk4 astra diesal cv joints then into chris astley 5 stud flanges
davie
Works on a corsa, but novas use different shafts.
Shame its not that easy.

couldnt you just machine down 5 stud hub flanged and use big block conversion shafts with big block inners and outers on xe/let novas?
Yeah, thats what i have. but if you'd using a small block it doesnt work...

im just glad the nova had shorter shafts saved me the bother of having to get shafts made or old ones machined
