View Full Version : Tracker
Is there such a thing as a tracker for a nova where you get a number and if it is stolen the police or insurance company can track it down. Starting a project and would be gutted if it were to get stolen when its finished
I'm pretty sure you can get a tracker installed on any vehicle. Send an online alarms place an email or call them and see what they say? Probably a few different options though. It's police that have the tracker detecting equipment btw.
I assume you've already got an alarm/immobiliser? As this would be my first port of call before a tracker.
no dont have any alarm/immobiliser fitted. Would I need to fit that first then see about a tracker?

Guess not but seems rather silly to have a tracker and no alarm and imob:wall:
You wouldn't *need* it, but would you rather the thief ran off cos your car started making a racket or be able to find it after he's wrapped it round a lamp post?
Good points I will go for the alarm. Any idea what kind are better to get
Toad are quite well regarded, best bet is probably to phone a place that does them, tell them what you want out of it, as alarms will do all kinds of magic trickery if you want them to lol And get some prices fitted etc
lol The point of a tracker is if the thief broke entry to your house and nicked the keys to the car (thus the alarm/imobliser fob).
Theres loads of trackers out there. Can be fitted to preety much any car. Most you pay a supply/fitting fee then have to pay a set amount per month.
I have one fitted to my car. The way it works, if the car is stolen, ring the company who do the trackers, they ring the police (or you do, or both lol) the police then eather have the tracker number (like seen on road wars and the like) or the company who do the trackers have to give the police the loaction. The reason for the few different ways is due to the type of system used. GPS is one type but is stuffed when in tunnels or cargo thingys.
Basicaly anywhere your sat nav dosnt work the tracker wont work if its a GPS type.
I hope this helps.
Double post but will make it easyer to understand lol.
Alarm/imobliser is a great idea on a nova. Theres many out there, i fit gemini ones due to having problems with clifford and toad ones. As long as its not a cheap rubbish item and its installed by a proper sparky and its a thatcham approved alarm you can get slight insurance reductions (i think mine was about £30 but with the added thing of less chance of a **** nicking my car)
^^^ I understand that one a little better lol. Cheers Will have a look on the net and try and find a dealer and phone to get prices or have a look on ebay
Ebay alarms won't include fitting though, and you need either that, or an auto electrician to confirm it's installed for the insurance reduction, might depend on insurance company though.
Right enough never though about that, the likes of Halfords will sell them wont they and they have people to install aswell
'Install' in the loosest sense of the word, maybe. I'd find a proper alarms place though.
Edit: Remember halfords employees are average joes with a training manual, last time I heard a Halfords employee giving someone advice they were searching out something 'for high revving cars' for a Vaux Monaro, they have the limiter set at 5200 lol
If its a Thatcham aproved alarm and you want to reduce your insurance (and in some cases insurance companys dont take any noice of the alarm if its not fitted by a auto electrican)
Ring around a few places, you are talking about £150-200 for supply and fitting depending how long it takes and what alarm. Before you say yes to a certain alarm check it out, see what it includes and what it dosnt.
Theres many things you can have, remote start, Total closure (electric windows and electric sunroof if you have one), boot pop and lots of other things.
Also check out how reliable they were and if they ever gave many fault alarms.
I wrote this before the above replys lol. Dont let halfords fit one.
Will ring around a few places just now and see what they have got to offer. Cheers for the advice guys.
