View Full Version : bye bye engine
had a mishap last night. coming home racing a 205 gti just as i overtake the bastid doing 80 in 3rd (5500rpm) hear bang then a few clunks engine looses power, car fills with smoke, i get the clutch in straight away. roll for 1/2 mile into a laybye. get towed home by my dad. had a good look today and theres 3 huge holes in line with cylinder 3 on the bottom end, no holes in head but im sure at least valves will be fucked.
use some plyers and got a chunk of metal out of 1 of the holes, appears to be a piece of conrod, so im guessing a big end bearing went :(
spent all day putting the 1.4sri back in, almost done just need to conect wires/shafts/fuel/exhaust now
:( :( :( :( :( :(
Bad news for you mate, feel for you. What engine was it. Know a mate selling a 16v Astra GTE with a well quick engine in it for ?650. It drives just the body is knackered.

thats not good at all, im suprised at the bottom end letting go, a big end bolt must have given way, a bearing going would not have caused that much damage, also you would have had knocking for a while before that
i did have knocking, but twas told it was cam folowers. and i dont see howe it could be bottom end knocking, i had that before. it was more like a taping noise but iv done 30k and it never got worse until pop. only did it between 2-4k rpm
was a 1.6 16v c16xe by the way
