Ok, My sis went out with this geezer who loves turbo's. He had a renault 5 GTT which he claimed had 190 BHP...I drove it and it was very fast...But I dont rekon it was 190 BHP. Anyway...he has also got a Ford Escort Mk3 Cabriolet which is running Mk4 MFi RS Turbo 1.6, with stage 2 head, -31 actuator and he claims he is getting 225 BHP! He rekons he has killed 2.0L 16V Turbo and N/A 16V Nova's. I said to him...challenge me and my mate Clint (Lime green Nova 2.0L Turbo)....he didnt want to do a 1/4 mile or track day...he wants to go to Merry Hill. I dont know about U lot..but there is a place for racing.....ON A TRACK! I have seen wot happens on streets and it aint nice.

Wot U rekon to 225 BHP from 1.6 standard pistons, stage 2 head, -31 actuator, standard turbo, Samco Sport hoses, standard fuel pump in a Cabriolet Escort....extra weight. POST UR REPLY!

I have heard that the car is quick, but to kill a 16V Nova and 2.0L 16V Turbo Nova....Hmmmmmmm.....I will let U decide and im not knocking Fords as we have had them in the Family for decades.

Rob.

The fact that he wont Quarter mile and that he wants a street race suggests to me he knows his car wont have the legs on the 1/4mile

I drive a S1 Turbo but i gotta say a Nova Turbo Should Kill his 225 bhp Escort on the 1/4 Mile

Ian

a nova 16v would kill it let a lone a nova turbo

I agree, escort cab = heavier for starters

i may be wrong, but doesnt a vauxhall 2.0 16v turbo have 260 as standard? if so, put that in a lighter car, and youre laughing, compare the power to weight ratios of both cars, youll prolly find you could p!ss over a f*rd in reverse!

mikesri
10-02-03, 04:01 PM
Bout 200bhp as standard not a high as 260. But nova 16v will piss all over the ford!!!

Chris LR
10-02-03, 04:04 PM
Not 260, Not through the front wheels anyways.

1.6 pistons are good for around 190bhp on them. you need a shed load of other work if u go over this.

Well if its any help (prolly not Lol!) at the last RWYB day I did at Pod with my 1.6 8v on twin 40's I was drawn against an RST "chipped n'all" supposedly putting out "well over 200hp". I left him for dead off the line and he never really got back to me although he was gaining at the finish line.

He went straight home after that

The Lime Green Nova in question is the 'L' reg one...and it is Clints.

Had a HUGE accident in it tho...R5 GTT went into the back end....wheels were everywhere...but not many ppl know this happened so shhhhhh :D

The car is being rebuilt at the mo..pics soon! Its not green no more...its like Dark Subaru Blue but a bit lighter...still with 2.0L Turbo

Clint rekons it will be ready for a few runs at POD.....and yes....this is the car from Birmingham that runs 13s 1/4 mile....for those who were wonderng ages ago in the forum.

I never realised you had to be a member to view the thread :(

I said to him...challenge me and my mate Clint (Lime green Nova 2.0L Turbo)....

Out of interest mate, is that the Green Nova reg plate L566**G?

If so, have you got any recent pictures of it? If your mate Clint doesn't mind I wouldn't mind a couple, y'know for the Nova-appreciation album as it were.

Cheers, Ben

Two key elements here.

First. Power to weight ratio.
Second. Vauxhall engines are far better anyway.

Cheers Darren, I dont check this forum all too often so didn't notice the thread.

Ive never seen the L reg one run up the strip...it used to belong to a guy near me in Kent, but wasn't running a massive spec at the time of sale, whats it running now?

*Edited because I'm a bit stupid*

Vauxhall engines are far better anyway

apparently, its possible to tune a vaux 2.0 16v turbo engine up to 450ish bhp before you have to start rebuilding it, but i was told that the f*rd Sierra Cossie 2.0 16v Turbo engine can be tuned up to 600ish bhp before needing a rebuild, anymore bhp, and that would just be suicidle!

I see a L reg one on the way home from work one day. It was a clapped out red one being used as a work van (it looked a real mess) rust, spilled paint, dents etc....

12-02-03, 06:24 PM
Yeah the snotty green Nova (Sorry Clint  ) was up at POD last year.....he was running slicks (But shhhh!) and no interior...well there was a drivers seat but thats it. Best run I think was 13.1 seconds. The gearbox blew up after them runs....a recon F20 WITHOUT LSD was then fitted. MAD!!!!!...Still running tho!

Pics to follow soon of re-build.

Mwhahahahahahah!!!!

I depends what else you said along with it mate...
Just saying "you are Yummy" aint so bad... but adding extra bits onto the end like "now come and suck my dick" is not very nice... depends which approach you went for as to whether it was a bad idea or not doesnt it :D

what happened to the front headlamp on the lime green Nova, and whyd he swap the front alloys for steels?

courtenaynova
22-02-03, 12:14 PM
Headlight: They remove the driver headlamps because right behind there, there is a filiter for the turbo's. As turbos produce more power with colder air (Air is less dense entering combusting chambers)...There is a direct cold air feed.

Wheels: If you look, only the driving wheels are changed. Clint left his Softstarts on the rear with normal road tyres and the driving wheels were changed for 'Slicks' go get better traction because hes not running LSD so he gets loads of wheel spin...as you can see. He sometimes uses 2nd gear to pull away because there is too much power being transfered through the front wheels. After that meeting..He blew his gearbox!

Oh dear!

Much to my predictions, this engine finally went BANG!

Boosting at 22 psi, what do you expect.

Lets see what hes gonna do now.

the lime green car went bang?

fooooooooooooooooook, what will he have lined up!

22 psi is 1.4 - 1.5 bar?

that is alot of boost for a standard engine (especially a ford cvh).

rob will tell u that my friends 406 was running .8 bar - 10 - 13psi the ecu light kept coming on. And putting the car into limbo mode, and this is a 2.0 8valve, so for a 1.6 to running that much boost standard is alot of strain on the bottom end.

Rob u will be pleased to hear after 90 minutes of fiddling around under bretts car we managed to fit a -31 actuator and bypass the boost sensor..... so NO more ecu light and limbo mode. Its faster than before (when u last seen it) and it has now reached 145mph with ease then the ecu light comes on!!! grrrrr.....

and plus the drivers wheel keeps coming lose! what a rat!

is that the one with renualt 5 turbo too? He sounds like a bit of a bullshiter to me... I mean 180bhp is reachable, but as u drove it and u said it didn't feel that fast... They have massive turbo lag especially running alot of boost, the torque steer would be uncontrolable in that little car, and it would force u into the back of ur seat....

unlike ur nova :) which u can have a cup of tea in while ur waiting to get to 70mph...

lee (only kidding)

i just seen standard fuel pump! i don't think it was anything over 140 - 150 bhp if that. If i remember hearing right that a mechanical fuel pump can not give enough pressure for anything over 200bhp.

if i see the bloke im gonna say ... bokkk bokkk bokkkkka

courtenaynova
16-03-03, 11:57 AM
The Renault was fast, and the torquesteer was stupid! The Car was everywhere.

As for the CVH....My ar*e to 225 BHP.
