Hi,

I have an external rev counter on my nova with an adjustable needle to set the red line, it is currently a 1.2 but soon to be 1.4, what is the red line limit for a 1.4 so i can set the needle. It sits at 4500 rpm at the moment for a 1.2.

Cheers
Nath

Your redline on 1.2 is 4500rpm?

Think mine (1.2) starts at 6000 rpm on GSI clocks....could be wrong.

You arent even anywhere near your maximum power output at 4500 mate.

IIRC most of the small block 8V engines peak at about 5600 as standard.

I'd set redline at 6000 mate on 1.4

Set it at 6250, but 4500... thats no where near.

Sorry just to make it clear im not currently using it on the car yet, badly worded, i had it on my old nova and it was set to 4500 on a 1.2 (carbed 4 speed if that makes any difference i don't know), but to be honest it didn't really pull much after that anyhoo. But yeah you think around 6000-6250 for a 1.4 then?

correct, a 1.2 has no power output lol, the exhaust propells you lol

But its still way out! the redline is somewhere closer to 6k max rev limit on that it 6250 iirc the 1.4 would be very similar to the 1.2 tbh!

^ Hes right. Max power output on the 1.4 is achived at about 6k, so set it at 6250 and thats preety good. Theres nowt stopping you gooing over that limit anyways. The rev limit on old 8v's is.. well valve bounce iirc.

max power on a 1.4 is prob about 5350 redline at 6250
