Bit of a strange question but as i know from my past police dont really like nova's being an old car easy to get into i used to get stopped alot in my local area but even more when i was out of my area(i got to know all of them in my area ha ha) anyways just wondered what everyone thought about them, ever had any problems etc just as ive passed all my medicals, interviews and tests to join merseyside police and i should be starting my training at the end of this month if all goes as planned. If it does i will be buying another nova Hopefully novavan and will be going to all the shows i can but will this make people act weird having a copper there? cheers Ian i know its abit of a weird one but just thought id ask

piggie lol

tbh I have no bad vibes towards the police. Lots of mates in the force and they are all tollerable folks etc

15-06-09, 09:29 PM
i know that feeling, i had my old escort broken into and my touchscreen headunit nicked and a few other bits, i told them i was at work and they still went to my dads house looking for me then never come back to do finger prints etc cuz with ebing a valeter my lpastics were alwasy clean with shine and greasy as i used plastic dressing so finger prints shown up really well but they never bothered. I've always wanted to join and try to do my bit and now just had a little girl i thought if i dont do it now i never will.

Pig :p

I have no real problem with the police here as in Co.Durham (And Durham) they are fair and most are sound, Got stopped a few hours after i bought my Nova as it was on week insurance and they said it wasn't coming up as insured, 5 minutes later they said "That'll do me mate, Take care" and off i went.

But you do get some dickheads, Way I see it is, If you have done something very wrong and they catch you (I.E doing 50 in a 30) then there is no need to kick off with them as some people do, As they are only doing their job and deserve to be treat with the respect they deserve.

If they stop you for nothing major and start being a cock argue your point (if you have a valid one) but still treat them with respect as they have the power to arrest you for being aggressive to them.

wwmnw- thats very true, it just really winds me up on the roads at the minute ive got a little girl who is 6 weeks old tomorrow and even when she is not in the car i stick to the speed limits as they are there for a reason!! and i get alot of people trying to over take on a blind corner, speeding past now for that i would stop them but anything daft like a bulb id just let them know so they can get it fixed not give out a ticket just for something daft as that.

i do know what you mean though some are abit too keen on doing people for daft things but sometimes you dont know if a bulb has gone etc

You would be the kind of cop I would give respect to, Sometimes wish I was a cop as there is plenty of dickheads on the road who take chances in stupid places.

if you ever get a car recovered, dont get it towed for crime/pace, we dont get paid then and have to give it back f.o.c, tow it as suspected stolen or soemthing dude :thumb:

have to nip up soemtime, you going into traffic or beat?

ianglanister
15-06-09, 09:41 PM
starting off 'on the beat' while doing that training for traffic want to get a feel for it on the streets before just jumping straight behind a wheel of a car and having no real idea what its like walking the streets. been in for a chat with inspector lowe( who will be my inspector) and explained what i wanted to do and he said that doing that would be fine so keeping fingers crossed all goes as planned

When alls said and done the only people who have problems with the feds are the ones who are doing something they shouldnt be imo.

Ive had some terrible experiences with them and a lot more pleasant ones too, its part of life, one of the worst being sat in my mates car (as a passenger) while he was out of the car and along came a copper who ended up arresting me for drink driving (too long a story to type but i eventually kept my licence after six months of court appearances)

And yes you do seem to get the evil eye for being in a nova but moreso these days they tend to look with a "wow not seen one of those in a while" expression on their faces and ive not been stopped by a copper in a very long time.

My thoughts are there are a lot of power happy clowns who think theyre better than us all, but on the whole theyre cool and lets face it the country would be much more of a shoite hoyle if they werent around!

ianglanister
15-06-09, 09:43 PM
i would if i could but i could get done for having my uniform on while not on duty been told that i have to wear a jacket when driving to and from work. but once i pass training etc i legally have to keep my warrent card with me at all times so you never know. ha ha

Not strictly true that first bit, sometimes policemen on a powertrip will act completely unecessarily, but I see that you were generalising.

I do agree with the second bit though... me and a few mates were rowed up in a car park on night (yes, we are technically chavs)... and two of the policemen asked us about me and a mates Nova while checking details, one even said "my old sr used to squat down taking off etc".... then another said "take it easy boys"..... oo er... squat down or take it easy lol .

Anyways i've nothing against cops as a whole... just ones on powertrips. Like everything else...good cops bad cops... sound novas....rotten novaslol .

edit - Just thought I'd add... I've never actually been followed and pulled over by police, been driving novas for over a year daily now.

Mind you, I'm sure Ii recall seeing a mock up police nova at a south west car show a few years back...

TBH, I don't have a problem with the police. I've never been given hassle from them though, but I've never given them reason to hassle me. Even when getting my collar felt for doing almost a ton in the Celica, the police officer didn't give me the "holier than thou" style lecture.

All the coppers I know cant wait to get out. It can be a pretty soul destroying job dealing with all the dross of humanity a lot of the time. They all complain of having too much paperwork and not spending enough time doing what all of us see as the stuff they should be doing. They also get very frustrated arresting scum and getting a good solid case against them only to find the court system fails to deal effectively with them.

The upside is currently pay is good and you may end up retiring at like 40 with a healthy pension plus the chance to walk into alsorts of security based jobs.

My personal view is we dont get enough support from them for run of the mill stuff like car crime and house crime. Also quite a lot have a worryingly OCD fixation with dressing up and looking tough in their uniforms. Same goes for a lot of the firemen - they like dressing up in the gear a little bit too much for it to be healthylol

im not a fan of police my self, with my personal experiences they are neither use nor ornament, but the plain fact of the matter is the police ARE above the law, which does irritate me, but i suppose thats a perk of the job,

too many of them like throwing there weight around, and as i think there is a lack of trust within the police force itself in that alot of people are in there to make a name for themselves,

i know quite a few police officers and CID, and i have heard alot of stories so please dont reply saying " police aren't above the law blabla load of goat nads ect"

but from my experiences police can make a situation far worse than it is, and 90% of the time they act no better than a school bully, just only the other day my boss saw some bloke getting knicked in the center of manchester, and when his girlfriend was asking why he was being knicked the reply she got was "F off love, or a ill knick you too"

what an abismal attitude, hmm this person is annoying me, ill arrest them, how many customers do you think annoy me as an electrician? i cant just turn around and say "f off mate or ill stick 240 up your ****", whats the difference there?

but anyway ian, no people wont treat you differant, only a month ago i was on a night out with a copper who turned a blind eye..(by that i mean bent as the rest of) to activities that night,

and as for joining now with your little girl having come along, theres not a better time to do it, good paye, good benefits and most certainly a good pension....and the right to walk around with your thumbs in your stab vest :)

Never had a problem with them myself. But there is not enough of them down here, loads of alcohol related crime, fighting, vandalism, drink driving ect, which people get away with week in week out.

ianglanister
18-06-09, 09:58 PM
jim mcrae- its the same in my area, hence one of the main reasons wanting to join as its getting worse and worse by the day around here so i want to try and sort some of it out and 'do my part' for the community as i see it. most people will call me mad but due to merseyside police not currently taking on police officers i am doing this unpaid!!! i am joining the specials we do exactly the same as normal police but dont get paid for it. we get expenses i.e fuel etc but other than that we dont get anything apart from the satisfaction were doing some good well i will be!

Police ARE NOT above the law, the same laws apply to them as apply to us, with the exception of road traffic laws but only in the circumstances of an emergency response (i.e. blues and twos)

Some might act or even think as though they are but they are 100% governed by the same laws as us!

I neither like nor trust them. It seems to me that the only good police you meet are the ones you meet socially.

One of the things I really hate is the way they drive, I couldn't give a flying **** if they are 'trained' to drive fast (my **** are they!). They shouldn't speed excessively for exactly the same reasons the general public arn't allowed to. Whats the point in getting to a RTA a few mins faster if you could potentially have a big RTA on they way yourself. With the lights and sirens police can get through traffic much quicker by pushing through traffic carefully. This should be enough (I am not saying they should stick to the speed limit either). I have see some seriously bad driving by the police, complete tossers.

Then there is the holyier than thou thing they pull.

Or maybe I have a problem with authority. Either way you will not get me talking in a relaxed way to any police person. Sorry OP. Good luck with the job though :thumb:

I always get awkward whenever theres police around just because of how easily I could lose my license in this 2 year 6 points = ban thing, bald inside of a tyre I didn't notice and a dirty numberplate or something and I get a years ban, absolute bull :( That's of course assuming I'm not talking to them after being pulled over for a points offence in the first place, that just makes it even easier.

Tidy Max
21-06-09, 09:11 AM
spudly, i didnt mean they legally were above the law, or have a sodding licence to kill, but for example,

an off duty police officer is drink driving ony to get pulled over! shock horror! but then whats this? they pull out there warrant card! do they get nicked? i think not my son,

and if the police are funded by tax then to MK999 the police are employed by us, we don't pay our taxes they dont get no wages!

again, if i were to see a crime taking place, and i run over to do some form of citizens arrest/restraint, i pin the guy down but hes giving it death wiggling around, so i punch him in the head 10 times and they get it on tape? i would get fisted! FISTED!!!

Ive had varied experiences with the police, from nice and friendly,to absolute cunnts.Being beat up by them before,cs gassed when i (ME!) was being beaten up and fought back.Theres loads, yes i was a little ******* in my teen years buts thats no excuse for how they behave. They are simply pi5sed with power.PCSO's are a joke-they can be even worse.Their driving is abysmal and most of their attitudes fukking stink!.
They are slack with witness statements aswell,i once got locked up for a big brawl which happened on the estate where i lived, the stupid, dumb coppers SHOWED me what was written-leaving the witness names at the top of the statement for me to see:tard: :tard:

i dont have any real issues with police, some here are assholes by nature but most of them are ok, what makes me laugh is when they pull me over i always get asked to pop the bonnet, then you find out who pulled you over is not qualified to make a "traffic" related decision so i have to wait for the real police to turn up..

last time this happened, the 2 coppers who turned up spent 30 mins chatting about throttle bodies, my gauges and roll cage..

the bloke who stopped me felt like a right tit as his words to the traffic cops over the radio was "this car should not be on the road" lol

admittedly it was over fueling and it did pop out a flame and thats why they pulled me over lol...

imo it all depends on who pulls you over and how polite you are with them..

21-06-09, 12:06 PM
Well it's a difficult one this is, as some have said you get good one's you get bad one's etc.

I have been on nights out where some coppers just do there job and are good at it, then seen others hit people for no reason what so ever, i have even been heavy handedly treaded by them for no reason on night out, i was out side of a club when some trouble started, they bundled a few lands into a van, and in the process this one then turned to us bystanders and started shouting in our faces and grabbed me and pushed me to the floor, this caused me to fall into others that almost stared another fight!

But then i have met some nice one's that are friendly, and do there job well.

They are JUST people at the end of the day, and you get nice people and nasty people in everyday life not just the police force.

to be honest i know what you mean NOVAGUY08 some people go on a power trip but most the people i have spoken to are just sensible and like to keep the community happy rather than have conflicts therefore they become friendly and if any trouble did arise it would be alot easier to calm them down as you can talk on a friend level to them which is how i want to work!! cheers again Ian
