it always baffles me when people say Semi synthetic, you may as well run mineral. Go for something decent like Mobil 1.

Oil is a subject all to itself, but semi synth is quoted as 'mineral oil with certain synthetic additives'

You have to balance your approach out with a) the value of the engine & car b) the value of the engine & car TO YOU c) your chosen service intervals and d) your budget.

Semi breaks down easily when exposed to the silly temps inside the turbo, so would need replacing more often.

Fully synth every time, you can pick up some Valvoline VR1 fully synth up for about £25 too so it's not too bad.

The whole point of a synthetic is the base stock is better eg stronger film strength and higher reisitance to oxidation compared etc to a mineral oil. Your semi synthetic is then a mixture of the 2 so you can look at its as improving your mineral or reducing the effectiveness of your synthetic. I dont know how much synthetic has to be in a mineral to be then called a semi.

All oils conntain an additve package to then improve the base stocks ie different additives. Again the cheaper the oil the cheaper the additves (read not as good), so one of the statements above is not quite right.

Apart from the cost what is wrong with Mobil 1.

Mobil1 is thain as fook & nearly always results in smoke from turbo's.

My personal routine is GM 10/40 semi synth, replaced every 3k. Cheap as!
