I've been meaning to ask, do you have rusty rear drums? Seems a shame when your Speedlines are polished and the car is so clean! Glad you/the car caem out (virtually) unscathed though!

good to hear you and the cars ok

could it have been caused by over tightend wheel nuts?

AlexW

could it have been caused by over tightend wheel nuts?

I was thinking the same.

Good that the car and driver are safe :)

Did it scape along the bottom ball joint? Bigger brakes and you would need a new disc!

YESSS I KNOWW I HAVE RUSTY DRUMS.

Was lucky to have the car at pvs at all as it was still in the garage having the engine rebuilt a day before, the rums are on the list to be done but obviously there not my top priority if i can get the car fixed quick enough il get all the little jobs done then be at billing..

Happened to me while on a fixed bar, i felt it starting to go but couldn't warn the car infront as i had no battery lol was pretty bloody scary, the wheel bounced missing the car that was towing me by a couple of inches (and it hads just been sprayed) and just kept rolling, it ended up about 200 yards down the road. I always remember to check my nuts now.

Looks like you got off pretty lightly, could've been a whole lot worse.

Tommy_nova
10-06-09, 05:03 PM

any know where i can get longer wheel studs from as i am going to run a 10mm spacer with my speedlines ..

Sloth
11-06-09, 06:12 PM
speedshack sell longer bolts, but ive seen speedlines that havent fitted snug around the centre of the hub, and have moved, stressing the bolts and snapping them. might be worth checking your "snugness" dude!

Aint that right! A 20kg+ rim/tyre to an oncoming windscreen at say 76mph would be more then lethal! Let alone going under the car at that speed!

11-06-09, 10:15 PM
make sure you don't let anyone tighten your wheel bolts up with a windy gun.....

garage monkeys use them & they stretch the bolts. the threads keep pulling & the conical bits can't go anywhere cos they already have the wheel tight. after a few times, they snap. you were fortunate

Tommy_nova
11-06-09, 10:19 PM
yea i dont like them using the gun things

mowgli
11-06-09, 10:23 PM
yea i dont like them using the gun things

I make a point of causing a scene if I'm in a tyre place & after telling the sales person that I expect them to be hand tightened, the monkey still uses the gun. I had a work Astra mk3 van that got gunned up so tight that I snapped a 17mm impact socket trying to undo them with a 12' scaffold tube onto a snapon breaker bar. the garage got a british standard bollocking for that

Tommy_nova
11-06-09, 11:41 PM
ahaaa im guna do that now lol

I remember swearing at some silly @unt for swerving across 3 lanes towards the hardshoulder across the front of me once, about 50m down the road I saw a spare wheel in lane 2, and then a wonky caravan about 1/4 mile further down lol
