I cant get my nob off!!

help , i cant seem to get my knob off.... my gear lever. I just bought a brand new shiny silver knob for my gear lever but i cant get the original shit one off. Any ideas? its stuck like fuck, and i dont wanna damage the linkage by using brute force. cheers.

It should unscrew, if not cut down each side of it, its only rubber, then turn it, it should break in two and fall off. (use a hack saw but dont cut too deep i.e dont cut into the meatal of the stick.)

you have to cut it off mate.don`t use mole grips like me and take the whole linkage out like i did the first time i tried it.
