right guys,

being as my nova is off the road until i pass my test, its not covering any miles,

so i start it most days, leave it to tick over for 5 mins or so, then turn it off,

went out and started it yesterday, and its idleing at 3500RPM!

any idea's? its happeed before, but i just blip the throttle and it stops it, but ive had the air filter off, and the throttle isnt sticking, so why the extra rpm?

any idea's highly apprechiated

loool, lovin the sig mate,

yer spoke to a few people now, and they all say these spi 8v engines are prone to the auto choke sticking, so il give it a go,

but, can someone get a pic of the choke for me? loool, i dnt know what one is, lol

icv = idle control valve. or just check the cable and make sure the throttle hasnt stuck oen by stretching the cable. happened to me. and check where the throttle cable connects to the engine because what happened to me was the little metal clip has popped out and it just pulled the cable through. so takea off the airfilter and check it

^ lol

No offence, but it cant help, starting it then letting it idle then turning it off. If you cant drive it, just take out the battery and leave it till you can drive it!!!!

Your 100% right pete, sitting there idling/reving with no load is just damaging it tbh. I dont get the point of having a car before you can drive that you start everyday and leave idleing, without it ever getting any use.

agreed ^^^^. anyways the idle control valve is located at the front of the throttle body (carb looking thing) its black with a plug running to it next to the throttle linkage.:thumb:

hope this helps.

i can drive it, lol,

instead of slating me 24-7 pete, why not tell me what to do?

do you think i should maybe take it for a run up the lane ? will this solve it ?

and alex, i think youll find at least 25% of png have cars they cant run, are you saying its not worth them having them? what about when yours was off the road, you couldnt run it, whats the point?

Yup found it earlier before i found your post mate, theres grit in the spring, so gave it a quick blow out with the airline put it back and still doing it,

when my dad gave it to me, there wasnt a hose on the black box type thing under the inlet manifold, theres 2 holes, one has a hose, one doesnt,

also, theres a loud hissing noise coming from the engine, im thinking air leak somewhere which would mean it would idle higher

lol quit ya whining. I dont slate you 24/7, just every so often! You obviously cant drive it, else you would be! I mean legally.

lol

nah ya dont 24-7 admittedly, gotta eat, sleep an use loo once in a while, lol,

i ment, i live in a private lane, so the odd thrashing up and down is ok now and then,

Pistol Pete

When i say drive it, i mean take it for a good run. A couple of miles, get everything up to a good temp, use all the gears etc...A run up and down a lane, and letting it idle is no good IMO. It will probably do more harm than good TBH.

06-06-09, 05:18 PM
hmm,

do mot testers still take cars out on a run during the test?

Pistol Pete
06-06-09, 05:18 PM
Nope. No need to.

Novaboi_1991
06-06-09, 05:20 PM
just, obviously i cant take it out on a run, but, even if i had my licence, i couldnt due to no tax or mot, so its gotta be sorted.

will have a mk2 hatch soon i hope, as been offered it cheap, il prob just nick a few bits off that, will be breaking it on ebay i hope,

Ones that NEVER go for a proper drive? Thats not manny at all!

And i said CLEAN the ICV not blow it through with a airline. Carb cleaner.
