lol well it was a bit of an open question lol

SPi, group 5; carbed group 6.

I'll put a thread up in articles listing all the insurance groups at some point.

jus been offered a 1.8 focus an was told the insurance would cost less than mine as a nova is higher insurance group, lol,

the focus was group 12!

Check it out - the insurance may still be lower as insurance is no longer all about just the group ratings.

True, i dont know what mine is (plus the mods ofc) but i could get insured on a 2.0 vectra for the same price lol

most "consumer insurance groups" dont actually reflect what the insurance companies use. Theyre more a guide.

Insurance companies use the group as one factor in as many as 50+ other factors that rate your policy. For exampe a group 2 car (ford Ka, fiesta, corsa etc) can range based on the spec from a group 64 - group 110 or higher depending on cc of engine, model, availablility of parts, age, transmission, fuel, modifications, value and so on... insurance companies use a much finer range so they can cover every model and then some...

Annoyingly an older car on a lower grouping can actually be more expensive than a higher more modern grouped car - reaosn being is the saftely features on the newer car mean accidents are likely to cost less than in an older car with less safety features and more "pointy sharp bits" that dont bend.

For example - most of the front end of the new VW Golf is plastic - including slam panels.
