Don't be getting a VHD now LOL!

I would look at a nice p1 or a classic though before a 2002, you might be disappointed with the new age models, I know I was when I was gonna swap. Not "aggressive" enough, too heavy etc

rexy you keep on getting slower lol

I was thinking that before mate, But the interiors on the older gen is aweful. I love the big chunky looks. First thing i do when looking at anything is check the power to weight these came up at 177/ton thats a standard fig with full interior etc.

I drove a 2002 wrx and in honesty the clio would and has in the past dicked these. But i drive silly hard at times But, im fed up with stripped interiors and poxy small ass cars so i want a bit of comfort/power and good looks *good looks is a term i would use if i find something nice, not nes the same opinion as you but hey ho* ;)

The wrx sti are suppose to be a very good drivers car, and they have potential. I was looking at a 200sx but, to get one to handle as well as i want would cost a lot.

Baxter, Its not all about outright speed my son, Its a combo of both power and handeling. You should know this you homo!

i give it 2 weeks lol

Past it mate, really i am... This is the main and only reason im getting a 4 door. As to strip it would render me a complete bellend in most cases.

Problem i have is it has to be a fair whack quicker than the clio and that ****er was a little hanimal.

Scoobys have a huge tendency to die rather fast. I know the Pre "Bugeye" ones did anyway, they can be gotten with fckd engines over here for like €500 in standard form and modified (wheels, suspension, whatever mods live on) from €1k up. IMO, they had their day over here.

The most common problem with Impreza's is a dawes device/manual boost controller/bleed valve. People whack up the boost without supporting mods and the engine melts, usually piston 3 (as it's the last one on the fuel rail) after it's run very lean, with too much boost and not enough fuel. A proper re-map is the best way to go, but di*kheads don't wanna pay, do they? Also, lots of people run imports (which in Japan are run on 102 octane fuel) on 95, again becase they don't wanna pay, creating massive detonation and once again, engine failure. This also happens on P1's a lot (Allegedly, more that half of P1's had new enginues within the warranty) because they run a ver6 STI engine which needs remapping for our fuel.

Some models suffer from MAF failure as well, and it's recommended that you DON'T use a cone filter/induction kit on those models.

When I had mine mapped, my mapper said to me that he could either map the car for all out power, 1.25 bar but you risk it running lean (Would've got 300bhp/280-300lb/ft torque) or map it slightly rich and hold off the boost to 1.1bar (which I agreed) and got 280bhp, no boost spikes and over 300 lb/ft torque anyway, mapped for 99ron Super unleaded.

I thought it would of been driver/owner error rather than the cars fault which is usually the case, I need to find a totally standard one which has had a mature owner and if its running on std boost as standard whoooooo hoooo.

Cheers for the advice tho matey :D

get a remap for 95 ron and youre onto a winner imho. what if you are driving on vapour and you can only get 95.... oh yeah, lunched engine. NICE.

It would appear there is a total lack of mechanical sympathy from scooby/evo owners, so driver error would be an assistance to the engines deaths lol

Edited for truth. . . .

Remap to 95 is a good idea, but you lose power running at lower boost.

I have an idea with my car, onn 99/100 ron. Never let it drop below half a tank!

cant see you losing that much power to make you feel short changed (unless the engine is TRUELY that crap).

So how much faster is it with 2bhp more and 20-30kilos extra in the tank? lol

They also suffer from said abusers not bothering with regular oil changes.

IMO boxer engines need fresh oil even more so than conventional turbo lumps due to the pistons sitting on their sides. Get the oil nice and crappy and the piston rings turn into massive round files and they start ovaling the bores.

SO if you get one rexington, change the oil every 6k without fail, or you'll just have another broken car lol

But congrats on trying to lose the french bug, i know it must be hard lol

i ve got a mate whos just got a uk 300 after having sti version 3 and he says that uk 300 feels slow and heavy

maybe a earlier ones are a better drivers car

Just personal taste I suppose. . . . I just got bored of FWD, not being able to use the power when wet and on the Moors near home, as the camber/crap surfaces really affected grip.

Next stop for me will probably be an XE powered Caterham, as I'm keen to have a RWD next

Gaz be careful when following Impreza forum advice - 95% is bull**** and half-truth and there is even some already on this thread, I will MSN the specifics.

I had one for three months (before crashing it meeehhhh) and in that time I obtained all the relevant manuals and did a lot of poking around on the car myself. There is nothing mystical to them they are just a bit fiddly (very messy under the bonnet) and 'specialists' know how to charge.

My advice is avoid the advice put forward in form of generalisations and only listen to forumers who can give you the nod first hand on the issue in question.

why would I know the ins and outs of a specifics engine that is at the present moment in time of little to no interest to me.... I'd have thought being the scooby owner/scooby forum user there would be a hint as to what a mapped for 95ron scooby will do...... then again its not "cool" to do that kind of mod so no one would have lol

TBH I don't know anyone who's done it, because Impreza ownership seems to be all about PPPOWERRRRRR lol, SO NO-ONE WOULD ADMIT TO DE-TUNING THEIR CAR!

Don't you work on ECU's? Thats why I thought you might have some idea, but to be honest, it's a bit specific I suppose.

Stuart
08-06-09, 08:04 PM
used to work on ECU's, now "retired"

but yeah its very engine specific.
good point, what self respecting car owner would brag about having a nice reliable car that runs on any fuel but makes say 5%-10% less POWAAAAAA lol

My 1.2 kicks the crap out of everything on mpg and hasn't actually broken down on me ever.

Your 1.2 prob has worst fuel consumption than the 172 i sold lol That thing was hamazing on fuel.

Anyways, a few days later on this thread and well and evo 5/6 has been thrown into the equasion.

I took a 5 out the other day for a test drive and well i liked it, they seem to be a much more driver focused car. The scooby felt nice and comfy but this was only the wrx. I need to find and test drive a WRX STI.

The only thing with the evo's is the interior they are ****ing GASH and its bugging me that for 7k you get a really old car with no real indication of milage as they are imports and you never know. I went and had a look at a 50k evo 5 and jesus it had a hole in the carpet looked generally tatty, rust was showing etc etc etc. But on the same note, I found a fresh import on 80k and it was about 100%'s better interior outside condition etc so all this low milage bollocks cant be trusted.

The whole idea of selling the clio was to get something comfy, nice to be in and fast. Im poking around the MLR and also a few scooby sites now. I know the scoobys have AFM problems.

I just dont want to be scared of driving something and at the moment im really between the two.

Rexy
10-06-09, 06:34 PM
The evo has been dismissed due to massive running costs, Yes i've been asking around and speking to actual owners etc and also the fact the interior is naff and really dated.

The cossie again is a bit of a naff interior and thus i havent looked at them either... Just rang the insurance co. and they want another £300 from me thats based on a X reg wrx im pretty shocked to be honest but i do live in a rough ass area. Oh and they stuck me a nice £600 excess Greenlight insurance suck ass lol.
