1.2 Cylinder Head Differences

Are there any walking dictionaries out there that could tell me if there's a difference between a 1.2i and a 1.2 carbed version, or are they inter-changeable ? Also, are there any identifying marks ? Cheers

I believe that the 1.2i has small square ports like the 1.4SR, and the 1.2 carb has large cathedral ports like the 1.3SR. They are interchangeable, BUT, then you'll have to change over the manifold and change to a carb to match, or vice versa.

im sure this is partly why they make crap bhp

Thanks for the replies. One more question though, which side has the square shaped ports. I have square shaped on the exhaust and cathedral on the inlet side. Does this make it a 1.2i head ?

You got it the wrong way round smudger. Guarantee you. You have cathedral exhaust (all vaux 8v do) and square inlet i.e. 1.2i head.

as mc says all the small blocks have arched exhaust ports
only the inlets change between engines

imo the square ports aint that bad , they are no smaller than the arched ones its just the airflow isnt as smooth due to the way its corkscrewed into the valve

if you ever take a head off you will see ;)

heh yeh - i looked at the EPC earlier and noticed that the 1.2, SPi and SR engines all used the same exhaust gasket

the 1.2i and 1.4SR use the same inlet gasket and the 1200 and 1300 use a different one
