Cat X means it just goes stright to scrappers gets de-polluted and crushed, nothing comes off it and it never returns to the road, tis such a fecking shame as clean original novas must be in short supply these days:eek:

Its good if youre looking to buy a new car but its a fallacy as youre going to end up in debt i.e. finance for the next few years even though youre getting it 2k cheaper but im sticking to my cars which are both bought and paid for thankyou very much!

No.

Mind you, gypsies will be making a fortune from it.

I think its ace this scrappage melarky, my £300 corsa is now worth £5k from Skoda if i buy a Octavia VRS :D

But with regards to that pictured Nova, fcuk just go take it one night a break it for spares.

dont you also have to had owned the car for a year before you qualify for the discount

Mike

Yep & it must have Tax/MOT IIRC.

Ford are now offering the same thing but scrap a car for a commercial vehicle :thumb:

Spudly

Yes its got to be owned by the registered keeper (i.e. you) for 12 months and the scheme ends next year so thats a good thing imo!

its gonna kill the second hand car market, thats what it did in germany. my dad is a scrap merchant so is getting a little more business but it breaks his heart to see some of the cars. 1998 subaru impreza, 36000 miles, mint condition but had to go for scrap. its mad

Its wounding sometimes when you see some of the stuff in scrappers these days isnt it, there is a lotus esprit ( i think thats the model, like the one in james bond) and a viva aswell:eek:

Oh come on people, we're helping the economy here. Remember, people getting up to their eyeballs in debt by buying (lets face it) a luxury item, is good for the country!

wrong. cat x means its noit logged on the insurance database. thus just buy it, apply for the log book and its all good.

Pah, most of them end up going rallying, have ID's changed THEN go back on the road.

Not that i condone that obviously....

you sure you aint thinking of cat a spud? im still in contact with alot of the lads who are still there, nothings really changed, its an insurance agreed standard system. cat x always was and is non recorded write offs. it will have gone through as a normal driving car, and just had the yellow part of the v5 filled in. there is a way round everything mate ;) ill do some asking...

Mike
01-06-09, 07:28 PM
if its Cat X it can be sold, driven, broke for spares whatever.

EDIT: Or so i belive?

what more can i say !!!!

Jack
01-06-09, 07:29 PM
I hate to agree but the tree-hanging lazy one is correct.

Cat A is total write off, must not return to road. Cat X is "we can't be bothered to do anything with it" write off lol

Sloth
01-06-09, 07:33 PM
yer, all the flood damaged crap from the other year were cat x, as we didnt know what was exactly wrong with em, i.e some just had soggy carpets, others had s shaped con rods..... lucky dip salvage....lol

Mike
01-06-09, 07:33 PM
Cat A: A vehicle that should be totally crushed INCLUDING all its spare parts

Cat B: A vehicle from which spare parts may be salvaged BUT the shell should be crushed or never put back on the road

Cat C: A sometimes extensivly damaged vehicle which the insure has decided not to repair but could potentially be repaired to a high standard

Cat D: A damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair but which can easily be repaired & legally return to the road

Cat F: A fire damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair.

There the most common, shed laods of cars you see everyday on the road are Cat X, just the owners are not aware ;) damaged pre registered group stock, damaged unregistered cars etc etc

Sloth
01-06-09, 07:36 PM
mike, ive seen cat a's get their engines sold...... breakers arnt really that nice, esp if its a 40k jag....

I was in my mates breakers yard yesterday and I couldn't believe what he got for free, yes free! a T reg 206, a 5dr corsa C, a P reg merc est with full leather, a S reg megane convertible and a flair arch shogun! all because he has the contract with a local garage to get rid of all there "eco-flex" cars!!!

Scrappage scheme is yet another example of the government being complete hypocrytes.

They dont seem to realise that getting the most out of a car is better to the environment than killing it before its time and replacing it with new.

TBH I am obviously completely against theft of any kind, but that pic of that SR pretty much broke my heart and I wouldnt blame anyone swiping it. It's probably got no fuel in it and is probably missing an HT lead or two. I doubt it will just fire up and drive away :(

We need to rent a warehouse somewhere and start filling it with Nova's. I wouldnt be surprised if other older car clubs are having the same sort of ideas as well.

God damn that fat ass Brown. Angry I am!!

Lee, you have just put into words the crap thats been muddling round my head, i always remember someone on here posting that when they had their GTE MOT'd the tester compared the Co2 emissions and they were lower than the same comparison test on an almost new 1.4 VW Lupo!

+rep to that man above, was just saying to someone the other day it's ridiculous the amount of perfectly good cars that will be scrapped!

That man being Lee, sorry Spud, you jumped in there lol

the answer is simple, go into the lovely maindealer, ad whatever car they have advertising the scheme, say "i'd like to buy that "citroen ax" over there please" when they say, "wouldnt you like a focus ghia 1.6 clone-mobile?" say "no as the 2k bonus is negated when i drive out of the dealership, as it looses that in depreciation, now sell me the ax!!"

The problem here is that you, like many others, assume this to be primarily about being "green". Which the scheme isn't.

Its purely a scheme to kickstart the economy, with the green angle rammed in to appease the hippies and various hypocritical world summits. £2k off a new car isn't much; most of us could barter that with relative ease (in fact, probably more in the current climate). Most people with 10+ year old cars have them because they can't afford a newer car, so will be buying on finance (and car credit is always silly interest). People on finance pay interest, which helps refloat the financial institutions.

Question is, what happens to all these cars when they get repo'd after the buyers can't afford the finance payments? Answer is, who cares as Brown will be long out of number 10 by that point so doesn't have to care.

I would go get it if I was back in York!

Likely a low owner car that has no idea of its worth and just traded it in!!

Cat A is worst apparantly - cat X you just apply for V5 and it aint recorded on logbook.

kent14sr
01-06-09, 09:16 PM
I would guess reg as F629OKH

A Hull registered SR still in local area - prob means 1 owner from new, low mileage and they fancied a new corsa so chopped it in. Poor thing

I want it!

Bnp my funking ass.

Why is the nova written off? Looks ok.

All the cars that are on the forecourts with the scrap sh*te all over are mint around here.

not far from me mate:thumb:

Rob
01-06-09, 09:27 PM
As said yes cat x,s can go back on the road when the v5 has been applied for the ones in question ie £2000 scrapage allowance arent allowed to be touched by the dealer for any reason and have to be kept seperate marked with a sticker as these are now owned by the government and the logbook forwarded to them so the said garage gets the 2000 reimbursed :thumb:

It just begs the question how dilligent the dealer is . .

If someone offered a few notes then would he allow it to go for banger racing etc etc - as far as he knows V5 is sent off as scrapped which means he has satisfied government requirement but the buyer then applies for V5

dealers are desperate for cash right now!

Joe Richardson
01-06-09, 09:51 PM
If they scrap it,it makes mine more rare so it's better for melol

why doesnt someone just apply for the logbook - then when it comes back just go and colect it - and when they ask what youre doing just say collecting my car lol - i know theres more involved than that before anyone says lol
