I went to see a red 1.4sr last night. its on a j plate with 66k on the clock, no mot or tax, but he says he's gonna get 12months mot(he's a dealer sounded a bit dodgy!). the rear arch has been re-built coz or rust, buts its just had filler in it, and there is a little bit of rust on the bonnet. its mechanically sound with a clean(ish) interior. its up for ?595, how much is it worth? just need some idea really, don't wanna pay over the top. my dad says the arch will be 2-300 quid to get done proper, but he could do it for much less(minus re-spray)

whats it worth people?:o

I suppose you're right...

BUT - I think what he is getting at is should he pay 600 quid for what he described?

Have a quick look through the cars for sale section on here and compare some prices mate see what you think.

i've had a look and its cheaper than some, its just that rear wheel arch that i'm a bit skeptical about, adn the geezer is a dealer and how dodgy will the mot be? my dads a mechanic and knows what needs to be done for an mot so he'll have another proper look when its tested.

wisewood
04-02-03, 01:48 PM
Well as long as you get your dad to check it out properly for you first and he knows what he is looking for you should be ok with it mate... Just try and get it as cheap as you can from him... especially if you gotta rebuild one of the arches.

Benjoyce
04-02-03, 01:52 PM
just phoned the geezer and he wants 525 minimum, so i'm gonna say 50-0 cash tonight. the arch ain't to big a job but it's just a pain in the arse that it looks bodged!!

heh i know how u feel

when i baught my saloon for ?350 it had just got a new MOT and a full service

the oil filter looked as tho it was 5 years old (and had a date back in 97 written on it) and the oil was mingin, the car which wasnt being used had traveled 1000miles between getting the mot and the next day when i looked at it, there was some heavy rust around the tie barmounts on the front crossmember which could have been an MOT fail and the headlight alignment was and still is way out cos the bottom plastic clips have snapped and one of the aim adjusters is faulty

everything else seemed ok cept the rear bearings which needed done (one of the hub nuts was threaded and the splitpin was all that was holding the wheel on :o )

i baught it anyways since the price was good and it looks much better now

pity some stupid fcuk van driver reversed into it the other day :o and broke my bumper and grill - (and my headlight clips and range adjuster, and cracked the indicator lens too :D) some im just waiting for his insurance to sort that out

referring to the f reg nova above for ?35 its at Simpsons near York.

its absolutely knackered as you would expect, i tried to start it last saturday and there are faults allover (no real suprise) the bodywork on the passenger side is a state as well with the arch having collapsed on the back.

however at Manheim auction, Rothwell a couple of weeks ago a White J plate SR with 85k and 3 months mot went for ?250 and it was well tidy with history.

Benjoyce
05-02-03, 11:54 AM
i brought the sr for 500 quid last night and it runs fine, just need to sot the petrol gauge and gove it a good clean and t-cut.

does anyone know how low i can go with 16's?

Depends how much you want to do to the rear arches mate and what offset the wheels are, and what tyres you use on them...

Read through technical and styling forums and you should find some answers its a question thats been asked before.

re the ?35 one... what do u expect for that money... my ?75 shed just passed it's second mot with hardly any work..... and for not much cost it's been modded well past 1.4sr spec

dunno if this pic will work :?

Keep it standard.

Benjoyce
07-02-03, 01:02 PM
why? i'm not gonna touch the exterior, but gonna lower it, exhaust(rage- anyone every heard or seen one on a nova let me know!!) K'n'N, 40's(hopefully!) wheels, arch mods to fit the 205/45/r16's!!!!

Chris LR
07-02-03, 01:13 PM
why? i'm not gonna touch the exterior,

What do you call wheels, arch mods and a huge pipe out the back?
Doing the Suspension alters the look of the exterior too.

Keepin It Standard costs less (in mods and insurance) and reduces the risk of theft.

At the end of the day if you want to join the mod brigade and get stopped every week, go ahead.

Benjoyce
07-02-03, 01:20 PM
um, you can put the stardard suspension back on, standard wheels, standard exhaust and it looks the same as it was!! unless your gonna get close and look for the rolled arches of course. and it makes absolutly no differnece to the insurance what i do(within reason) as they allow any exterior, interior and basic engine mods(no 2.0ltr lumps!) i don't mean to sound offensive, but standard they look like a go-kart with suspension thats about a foot too high!! they need to be lowered to iomprove handleing and the arches rolled helps to fit better wheels that handle to road better. the engine mods help it go better and sound better as well. the standard exhaust just sounds like a fart coming out the back.

Chris LR
07-02-03, 01:23 PM

I think you'll find they'll want to know about aftermarket wheels and suspension mods mate. Whatever company it is.

Benjoyce
07-02-03, 01:25 PM
yer they want to know, but it dosn't affect the quote.

Chris LR
07-02-03, 01:27 PM

Benjoyce
07-02-03, 01:28 PM
