yeah yeah, whatever, didn't take long I know lol
OK, so my three options are -
We still have the Tigra on the driveway, tried selling it to Specky but he ain't interested in it, then thought to ourselves, for £100 we might aswell keep it... for something? possibly XE, cheapo 'bit of fun'?
Secondly, after driving our Ph2 RS Clio 172 with agression, in full fat form, fully loaded with interior, its amazing how much it gives 'out the box' so to speak, so makes me wonder what a Ph1 172 would be like without all the interior, with some nice brakes/ suspension and a diff... hmmmm front inlet for possible throttleboddage lol
Thirdly, I've been offered a 3dr MK1 Golf 1.8 16v, 1983 in Red, which I really REALLY love the look and drive off, but its not a GTI, should this bother me a great deal? I know they're mega old technology so wouldn't be as good as a base to start from (when compared to a, say, 172 for instance)
It's only been 5 months, and those people that haven't broke their cars haven't even done a trackday in that time, so I don't even feel as if I've missed out on anything to be honest lol
Anyones thoughts/ experiences on any of the above would be great... :)

Clio, but i would also seriously consider the Golf.
tigra, with something silly in it. bike engine? you have it use it. whats up with it?

Golf mk1s can make an uber track car, but costly and parts can be rare esp if you stuff it, Tigra too much weight with that glass **** but they do take an xe well lol :D

Kev, In honesty mate i doubt many Nova Xe's will be passing him in a well driven and well setup phs1 172.

I definately wouldn't got for a Tigra, purely on the fact they don't handle well LOL (excuses) seriously though if you threw an xe in it you wouldn't stop as you would always want to improve it and tbh you will throw a fair bit of cash at it just to match a nigh on stock Clio 172.
Clio for sure is a awesome car, MILES better than a xe nova, doesn't need any thought on the chassis as Renault did a superb job of that anyway, as you say the normal mods would have to be done but you get a lot of car for your money in a Clio, I've always liked them after driving Lushmans.
Mk2 Golf is a cool option, one of Bens mates has one and I got a session in it at Sneterton, great handling, not massively powerful but for what was essentially a £1000 track car it was very impressive.
I suppose the best example of a Mk2 Golf I've been in and you have is Sherbert from the Ring in 2005, total c0ck but he knew how to pedal a car and iirc that was not far off a stock engine, just had suspension tweeks and semi slicks.
No doubt whatever you do you will enjoy it, I'd just do the Clio as you own it already.

Seriously mate I think you under-estimate the Clios :thumb:
After already having 2 fast track novas I think I'd be inclined to try something different and you wouldn't go wrong with either the Golf or Clio.
xsara vts gets my vote now rexys mentioned it.

Ah, my error I misread Ollys post ! I can't really comment about Mk1's as I've not been in one since I was about 10, I know someone doing a 1.8T conversion into one as a track car, currently unfinished though so no idea on results but that engine in mk2 would be just as good without the cost of buying a nice mk1 in the first place !
That 16v in the Xsara and Rallye/GTi6 is a great engine, I'll take your word on the Xsara's handling but if its anything like a 306 you wouldn't go wrong there either, I just think they look dreadful so I'd have the 306 over the 5hitroen
Those 172's do go pretty well in full fat form, would be interested to see how it would go after a crash diet and some coilovers.

That was a 197 Cup, with sequential box :D Not 100% sure on the suspension they use but they are not a million miles off standard.

no seriously they do handle mint as std and a very quick , chris's can pull away from my xe in 5th when both flat out , and then corner better aswell lol
but i do love mk1 golfs , but as rexy said , parts are getting rare and expensive and you would have to spend a lot to get it as good as the clio now lol

I knew we would make a man of you one day, PMSL I may not sell the clio after all this LMFBO. This is whys riggys nova broke, its scared its going to get **** raped by a frenchie :P

Thanks for all your opinions/ comments and experiences everyone - nice to read what other peoples views are.
After thinking about what an XE Tigra is like, it's definately put me off buying one, it'd be the most boring drive evar, and I do remember Jonboy telling me how bad the drive was, despite it only costing them a sherbet dib-dab and a curly wirly.
I hear all those people saying about the MK1 Golf, and kinda agree with the costs of repairs, availability of parts etc
I'm still thinking Ph1 Clio 172... a nice set of coilovers, should see me in similar realms of the Nova was, albeit no sccr thank god, and 25bhp less (for now)
