View Full Version : Scrubbing Noise

Theres quite a nasty scrubbing noise coming from my N/S front arch. It's definatley something rubbing as I go along as it speeds up/ slows down as I do. The tyres were rubbing on the front coilover struts so I put a 5mm spacer in and I can see there's pleanty of clearence now so no problems there. Thought this would be the source of the noise but obviously it isn't.

What else should I check?

Cheers.

Backing plate on the disc?

Sounds obvious but i take it you have taken the wheel of and had a good look for rub marks....

Did you change anything or did it suddenly just start?

Don't have backing plates on the discs, have had the wheel off and had a good look around and there's no sign of anything. Think it might be the disc rubbing on something but can't see how?

There was a slight rubbing noise and then I had the tracking a wheel balancing done and it was worse? So put the wheel spacer in as I though it must be the tyre but that didn't have any effect.

disc rubbing on the pads like the caliper doesnt step back after braking

how close is the top off the tire from the splash guard.

That sounds like it could be the case. Pretty sure it's the discs.

There's loads of clearence between the tyre and splash gaurd.

what calipers are you using you say that you had the wheels balanced and tracking checked is there any balance weights inside the rim as they could be catching on the caliper

I'm using 16v calipers. There's no chance the calipers are catching on the new weights, they're miles off!

Not rubbing on the outside lip? Mine was hard to see too.

Is it a rubber sort of rubbing or a metal?

Matt

Sounds metal :tard:

jack it up on the bottom ball joint and the wheel will go up in the arch then spin it by hand a try and figure it out.

Yeh, have had it jacked up and tried spinning it with the wheel on and there's not much of a noise. Think it must be at speed before it starts. Definately think it's the disc rubbing on the pad or maybe part of the caliper.

Bit mifted tbh.

May sound silly, what sort of life ois left in your pads? If they are down to the metal...Other than that a good poke around is all i can suggest!

Pads are brand new fella, only done 100-200 miles. Aye, think I'll have to investigate further tomorrow.

are you running mud flaps, as mine was rubbing on where the mudflap had come off at the bottom, made a horrible noise,

take of the flaps if so and check

mine only did it round corners mind

have you put new discs on because there is 2 different width of disc and you may have the larger ones when yo usupposed to have the thinner ones

check the drive shaft is not touching the chassis leg,

Alternator rubbing chassis leg, that will get louder when you speed up points towards engine mount,

er...
