Id say some form of vac advance type choke thing like you get on a queerburg carb, btw you want this moving into projects seen as the thread is heading that way, what with all of the pics and such lol

Sloth
27-05-09, 06:58 PM

stupot89
27-05-09, 11:39 PM
No probs at all matey and your a top fella your self good to meet you and your lass and your dad

Sloth
27-05-09, 11:41 PM

wudgey, im going to look at an engine for the cav on sunday, fingers crossed its as good as described.

Sloth
27-05-09, 11:44 PM
n.p stu, ill pm ya next week re. the corsa ;0

burgo
27-05-09, 11:47 PM
im sure you can ditch it. all depends on your driving style.

put it this way, id imagine RJ to keep it because hes a cruising fairy

Ernie
28-05-09, 07:20 AM
On my veccy gsi that bit opens up on tickover before the engine has warmed up then you see the little plunger bit shuts some thing.Still dont know what its for.
Also nice dirty box pic but has the engine lived under the sea for a wile as it looks very rusty.

Sloth
28-05-09, 06:48 PM
its been in a garden for a while, its actually oil stain free ernie. just surface rust. i might go have a play with the vac system now....

Rickyb
28-05-09, 09:20 PM
hay gayer hows it going whens this one gonna be finished????

Sloth
28-05-09, 09:25 PM
lol hey rick, hows it going? gay? my ****....lol
finished? when i can find a car to put it in. ive just waited 3 days for a reply to a pm and ive just found out the car is now sold. i had the money for it all week. ah well his loss. tonights pics to follow.

Sloth
28-05-09, 10:04 PM
well i was a busy chap tonite, i got alot of gubbins removed and inspected. i have to say, its very clean. i think its done roughly 60k, and has been looked after. no dirty kak or crud, apart from the small breather off the crankcase vent thingy. is it openable and cleanable? it seems to be sealed. anyway pics.
upper inlet and fuel rail
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp138/sloth_mk1_cav/fuelrail.jpg
lower part, be carefull with the gaskets!!
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp138/sloth_mk1_cav/lowermani.jpg
manifold brackets. this ones scorched from the cracked mani.
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp138/sloth_mk1_cav/manibracket.jpg
o rings inside the rocker covers. these are meant to be wedged into their cutouts, but 1 of mine fell off. i was lucky to find it, be carefull!
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp138/sloth_mk1_cav/rockeroring.jpg
they also do this, sticlk to the cam caps
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp138/sloth_mk1_cav/oringissue.jpg
finally, the vac flap crap. the manis and rocker covers are getting painted, so they got removed. as far as i can see, the lower one just lets air flow round the lower set of tubes. the top interupts the flow. what i wanna know is should these be set open or shut, as i cba with the vac crap, and some of its bust.
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp138/sloth_mk1_cav/flaps.jpg
any ideas?small top rad hose
this pipe thing feeds the throttle body, its a tiny hole and i was gonna just feed this direct to the small rad top hose, and miss the t/b altogether.
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp138/sloth_mk1_cav/smallhole.jpg

hope this helps fellow v6 lads btw.

mikey14sr
29-05-09, 10:04 AM
If any of that vacumn stuff plugs into the wiring you'll need to leave it plugged in to avoid fault codes coming up. It's all part of the dual track inlet system, like what's fitted to X20XEV's but more complicated, lol.

The cracked manifold can be welded up (someone on vecsport or vvoc has done it), but you might need to TIG it.

Sloth
29-05-09, 05:13 PM
ok kool, looks like i need a few bits from the breakers. might paint a few bits this weekend, depends on the missus....

Sloth

Southie
29-05-09, 06:03 PM
Get in touch with sbd for info on there setups of management for bike carbs. They quoted me £400 for remapable ignition for my c16xe. Send them an email and they will quote you via email.
Your other way is mbe management.

Edit: also ring Bogg Brothers for advice. Don't get they to do they conversion as they take decades lol

Sloth
22-07-09, 11:11 PM

i finally got round to painting the basic lump, using good ol' hammerite. i also picked up some tasty new stone-look paint from b+q. looks mint imho:d . i also whacked a few holes into the cambelt cover, to see the cogs, then realised my holesaw was too small..........

hallo, velkom to my update!
first, answers to questions posed.

jack, yep i did have a look, but ive also worked out a way to make an external cooler if it s fudged. looked ok mind.

ben, well done, my name isnt sloth for nothing. i am a bit slow. :d lol

mk999, nope you was dreaming, having taken some dodgy mushrooms from a mexican dragqueen called pablo......:p

spud, it got painted using b and q's finest value paintbrushes, made from 100% migweb users bumfluff....

so, tonight, i mostly ate the beans with some toast, painted a few more items with stone in a can, and polished the waterpump pulley, and fitted it, then realising the water pump groans more than a 90 year olds hips.....:(

so on the shopping list are a new pump, a new oil pressure sender ( is any vaux one the same?) and maybe a cambelt. now the current one still has vauxhall marks on it, and looks new, and has new tensioners. but the mileage is unknown, guestimated at 60k. should i do the belt?

any way pics (its mocked up btw, i need to paint and fit 20 million small bits.)

Sloth:thumb:

These v6's have a slight weakness when the belts let go, they tend to mash the valves into everything, some get lucky and only need to replace the heads.

I go by the rule of if there's no receipt for the belt being done, do it anyway. It's also gonna be a lot easier to do it now with the engine on the floor nowhere near an engine bay.

Sloth
25-07-09, 11:23 AM
nah, ive polished the cam pulleys, so i wanted to show em off, like most lads do with there xe's. i know that a stone may go in and muller it, but i know of 3 other v6 lumps local for pennies, so its not an issue. besides i have my eye out for a 3.2 so this is just to get it all running and done. i seriously want carbs tho, the vectra loom is huge, and cumbersome, so it will be fun hiding some of it. thanks for the comments chaps

Yeah they're multi-v. The tensioner failing is common. They have pas and iirc the mtv edition has ac.

Sloth, get a belt for the non PS models (iirc, 1.2 8v Corsa) and fit it, it will be loose and will sqelle on low revs but it will turn the alt.

Also, sell me the ECU, Key chip and transponder please mate, I've a definate use for a set up like that.
