Would you bother with a dirt cheap head gasket?

I know the costs and if it dont work then it could cost even more.

No silly repls please.

if you buy a cheap one it will work out more expencive in the long run!

Maybe, then again it might be fine, if it lasts 3months id be happy, not as if its going to get pushed hard, hmmm

well would ya like it to last a short while or for a long time? i knoow short while is easiest & cheapest option, but you in theory have to be doing it all again in less time then you would with a more expencive one!

I didn't realise there was various qualities and prices... except obviously for turbo engines etc.

Leeboo yep, plenty of options out there.

and novaguy, the pont is, i could replace it, and then somthing else **** up on this engine and cause me to rip it to bits. Then again i might rebuild it and find out its fine.

buy a cheapo mate. ive used the cheapest possible ones and when ya look at a cheapo and compare it to a decent one theres no difference to the eye. there made the same to tehsame dimensions and of the same materials thats what matters.

What engine you driving AW? just i ask because if its worth it you can go off & get a cometic one and ARP's, that way you only have to spend out once for a few re-builds or until ya kill it

IMO it would honestly depend on the gasket make that is supplied by the manufacturer. i dont know what GM supply but i do know that ford used alot of "PAYEN"(sp) gaskets which can be bought directly from them for half the cost of the ford parts centre... so if you can find the same manfacturer as the GM suopplier and buy off them, in theory they are identicle gaskets.

for pootling about on your average car then the cheaper ones are ok, provided they are from a good manufacturer, but wouldnt want them for any form of fast road/track use. :thumb:

Get an original GM one and stop being a tight arrrse

Don't scrimp for the sake of it when it comes to doing the head IMO.

Seriously, get the manufactuer of the head gasket from Vauxhall and find ring about ya local factors & find the cheapest one! Then gimmie a call & ill use some strings i got to pull & see if i cant save ya some more money :D
