Nazza's Nova
25-05-09, 01:04 PM
use the machine polisher with the g3 works a treat but keep the paint surface wet with water old spray bottle does the job once you been right round and got it shiney again, polish it with normal car polish i use auto glym super resin polish.

What is the best option? By a f/g panel?

IMO i wouldn't go for the flush tailgate look
I did. I regret it. Now it ruins the look of my car
Unless you have a bumper with a proper recess in
it will look poo ass you have to re mount your numberplate light
etc etc. Not saying not to do it, as its your car.
But just think it through before you do!
Car is looking freshhh btw :thumb:

Looks nice mate, reminds me a bit of mine when I 1st got it

Keep it plain and simple if you can - Not too OTT

A smooth boot does work if you have the recess'd bumper otherwise, it's a waste of time

nova1992
12-12-09, 06:31 PM
Oh fair enough, i am haing second thought about flush boot anyway, I am buying a seprate flushed tailgate so i do not ruin my current 1,

I am not going to go over the top i want to stay simple but i want it to look fresh :)

looks nice mate I own a sx myself, mine being a Td though

I like the standard interior (even though I changed mine). I always wanted to get some astra/belmont 1.8 sxi seats as there the same style but have the gte/ sr style bolsters...
Seem to be like finding hens teeth though so I gave up lol :D

Any way keep up the good work!

Connor
12-12-09, 08:28 PM
Hi mate if your going with a flush boot
the rear bumber needs a recess similar to this one (not my car btw)
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/DSCN0964.jpg
But as you can see Vaughan's car looks fcuking ace with the standard boot and imo keeps the original look!

nova1992
12-12-09, 08:30 PM
yh im keeping orignal boot! cheers

Oo my old car...

Yeah, I had a proper recess built as I think the one that are merely cut in look a bit gash - I tried to make it look a "bit" OE. However smooth boots these days are gay - that was 2004...

vaughanmc
13-12-09, 11:18 AM
You'll be able to get one at a scrappy surely - A front passenger one would do as well I think...

nova1992
13-12-09, 11:29 AM

nova1992
24-12-09, 06:18 PM

vaughanmc
24-12-09, 06:28 PM
Offset ? Width ?

nova1992
24-12-09, 06:29 PM
Model: Jizo
15"x6.5" racing wheels
Offset: 38mm
Bolt Pattern: 4x100 / 4x114.3
Finished: Black with Red Lip (http://evolutioneffects.com/images/jizo8hblpr.jpg)

vaughanmc
24-12-09, 06:30 PM
Might rub the arches with that offset...

Unless your folding them up, might still be close though

nova1992
24-12-09, 06:31 PM
I didn't know i've never changed my wheels, if i folded them would the wheels fit? and what if i got wider arches?

vaughanmc
24-12-09, 06:32 PM
Try folding your arches as flat as you can get them also the front wing lips might need folding - Depends how low your running it as well

nova1992
24-12-09, 06:32 PM
ok ill try maybe, and i want to get 60/40mm springs

vaughanmc
24-12-09, 06:33 PM
60 front 40 rear ?

nova1992
24-12-09, 07:37 PM

nova1992
06-03-10, 06:20 PM
well i have never worked with rust? My arches were done by a bodyshop. So everyone has to start some where right?

Would it be best just to use some filler? As people are telling me this. I need some PNG Advice! :)

vaughanmc
06-03-10, 06:21 PM
It WILL need cut out (as you have done) and plated or a new panel put on - Whatever you can afford or come by the easiest

Filler would be a bodge from hell lol

Hang on, didn't this get new panels and a respray? if so why the hell did they leave rot in it??

But if i were you i would replace with all new pales, as it's bound tome back if you dont etc.

Scott

nova1992
06-03-10, 08:21 PM
Had 1 new arch and 1 side had respray due to door colour, Full respray will be done as soon as all panels are sorted :)

I have orded new front panel, but am struggling to find rear panel.

scott.parker
06-03-10, 08:27 PM
For the wings i would replace, but not the rear panel, just get a grinder cut them out and treat the bare metal and then plate over mate, and then lots of stone gard etc, as it's not seen.

Scott

nova1992
06-03-10, 08:41 PM
Wings are fine mate :thumb:

Only issues i have are front and rear panels, Front as stated before i purchased a new panel.

Rear i will just patch up the holes after treating them,

If i just treat the bare metal and dont patch the holes up could this cause future problems?

scott.parker
06-03-10, 08:49 PM
Oh yeah just looked again, looks like most the rot is cleaned out/off so should be OK once treated etc.

If you dont cover them and add more treatment/Stone chip/paint etc they will just continue to rot more mate.

Have a look how my mk1 has been treated and restored etc.

nova1992
07-03-10, 10:32 PM
Well i have two sets of bumpers now ;) I am "Hopfully" fitting bumpers tomorrow and i will see what it looks like.

I purchased GSI Bumpers and side skirts but there were issues with the brackets which attach the bumper to the car so i had to start looking around for some new brackets in the end i gave up and just swapped them over from the old bumper :thumb:

vaughanmc
07-03-10, 10:33 PM
GSi kit IMO should be colour coded to match the car but if your keeping standard bumpers I'd have them grey with a body-colour stripe :)

Nova_Tek
07-03-10, 10:35 PM
Cool project mate. Minor work but it's really making her look tidy. If you are going for black bumpers then black wheels will be fine. If your bumpers are gonna stay dark grey then an Anthracite on the wheels would look good.

At the end of the day it's your ride and your taste.

connor c
07-03-10, 11:28 PM
if there hidden and you dont have a welder id cut out the rot treat with some sort of anti rust stuff then fiber glass some aluminium behind the hole and to give it strength and skim filler on the other side, sand, prime, paint job done
simples

1.2i engines sound tidy with a cone filter mate (Watch your fuel gauge go down as you'll want to hear it all the time)

I find my Magnex exhaust quite quiet which isn't a bad thing :) Will look the part mate

nova1992
08-03-10, 07:15 PM
Im sure ill be quite happy with the cone filter, But i have another filter K&N Different shape which just bolts ontop i belive, so i will give both a shot and see what i prefer. As for the back box do i just unbolt current one and replace it? Or is there any modifactions i would hae to undertake to fit correctly.

vaughanmc
08-03-10, 07:17 PM
Make sure your K&N isn't for a carb mate, might not be a straight fit

Backbox - It will need some gentle persuasion to come away from the centre section and should just pop out of the rubber bush/hanger

My Magnex backbox needed some mods to get it to fit as the bore was slightly bigger than the 1.2i bore

Curtoise
08-03-10, 08:00 PM

Going to keep hold of my steel's until i am happy that Cessaro's are the one :d

Hopfully will get side skirts on soon, I was trying to see if there is any fitting measurments i mean i can probley whack on without them, but i would prefer some.

Does anybody know how far from the bottom of the panel the clips have to be placed?

vaughanmc
09-03-10, 09:51 PM
Put the clips into the back of the sideskirts and put a strip of masking tape along the sill then put some paint on the clips and sit them against the car and the paint should go on the sill where the clips should be to give you a rough guide...

Women always say that. My wife thinks I'm crazy, she doesn't understand why the Nova interests me (and us) so much. When she saw PNG she thought that we were all fappin' mad. I kept telling her that I was rather sane in the mad world of PNG lol

Now that my car is in the motion of getting bodywork and a conversion done she's started to change her tune and I know for a fact that she'll end up wanting to drive the Nova more than her car when the LET goes in lol

Then I showed and explained to her what David is planning to do 3.2 V6 Turbo and she said 'ok put the 2 litre in but don't go any bigger' lol

Whats the best way of fitting backbox? Just jack up on axle stands unbolt old one and bolt straight back on?

vaughanmc
14-03-10, 06:02 PM
You might need some reducer pipes or sleeves I think their called...My Magnex bore was slightly bigger than my standard exhaust bore so a wee sleeve was made up to reduce the Magnex bore to go into the standard bore...Like a cone shape if that makes sense...

Bigger at one end than it is at the other... lol

grrrrrr, grrrrrrrr, grrrrrr lol nice work
how hard was it to remove the gear nob?

nova1992
20-03-10, 08:56 PM
ahaha, If it was grey i would hae given it to you curt :)

Was easy, popped the whole stick out the car, Then submerged knob in just under boiling water, Then waited a few minutes and popped it off.

Nova_Tek
20-03-10, 09:00 PM
Gear knob is a piece of p*ss to take off.

Get a block of wood, put it under the knob flat against the gear stick shaft and with a hammer tap up. This will push the gear knob off the gear stick.

Done it to mine and it took me all of 1 mintue to remove it like that.

G6 on a buff mate :) Make sure the panels wet or use a lubricant like Megs Speed Detailer or something

connor c
22-03-10, 07:31 PM
there loads the best i used is g3 you should get in any motor factors and it was 16 euros near me so alot cheaper than a respray
just apply like tcut by hand if you dont have a rotary off then use a good wax too seal it
