XE revs limited?

my mates corsa xe is only topping out at 3500rpm and engine warning light coming on at limit. it also surges on idle between 700rpm and 1200rpm. any ideas .... its not the icv as new 1 fitted ???

poss cranksensor fault or dizzy/coilpack problem maybe.

Flash the codes

we tried the "paper clip test" but to no avail and he is going to try and get a new crank sensor this week and go from there

It called limp home mode. wont reve over 3500.
Stops you from reving it when there is a prob.
Get the codes flashed out to find out whats work. Dont piss about with it, find the brown/yellow (iirc or brown/cream) and touch it to ground/eather and it will flash the light.

he just has the standard clocks that came with his corsa (1.2spi)

Well still need to get the plug wired in, and find the wires mentioned above and flash the codes up unfortunatly a car going into limp home mode is like finding a needle in a haystack without any more information

You said in the first post the ecu light came on, so its wired up ok.
So just find the one i've said about and ground it and job jobbed.
