View Full Version : pressurized water system
hope you guys can help
ive got a 1998 corsa with a c20xe redtop lump in it. now ive just had the head skimmed an pressure tested and ive removed the thermostat and the water system still seems to be pressurizing
im running a 1600 corsa sport rad
no thermostat
im just wondering could it be anything todo with the header tank cap?
the fan does cut in
any ideas on why it would be doing this?
cheers adam
Define pressurised? the header cap will normally hiss when you pull it off as the water system, particularly the air will expand when hot.
i didnt undo the cap my mate has a cavalier redtop and his pipes dont get hard

What was the head removed for? Headgasket?? If headgasket did you get a genuine GM gasket or spurious?
Are all you pipes rock hard?
Edit: Typed about pipes whilst replied.
head gasket wasnt gone but i had this problem so took the head off head it tested and skimmed and put a gm head gasket back on (brand new)
top and bottom hoses are hard but it blew a pipe last time the pipe that comes from the water pump housing to the inlet manifold

Have you flushed/cleaned the radiator out?
well the radiator was bought from a running car so i neva flushed it as i though it would be ok as it was fine on the other car

Have you fit a new water pump when having the gasket done?
I'd still flush the radiator. Doesn't cost anything to try.
new water pump sorry forgot to mention tha

Clean the system out as there could be a blockage somewhere or air lock.
How quick is it getting up to temperature?
if my temperature gauge is right it gets to 92 then the fan cuts in by this time the pipes are rock solid
how could i test the header tank cap is it worth drilling a very small hole in the top see if that helps?

Have you another cap you can try. They should release pressure without the need to drill a hole.
i havent got another one to try
got another question the t pieces hoses which goes to the inlet manifold then the other one should return back the the header is that correct?

if this diagram is right then mine is wrong i got the pipe coming from the header tank into the side of the head and the 2 heater matrix pipes goin into the plastic pipe maybe this is the problem
The coolant system SHOULD be pressurised, as it raises the boiling point.
It souldn't get to the point where pipes are splitting/balooning though.
And yes how youve got it piped up is wrong

The diagram is for the nova conversion so the water bottle has only one in and one out.
ive done as the diagram shows me but the fan cuts in every 3 mins or so

It will do if it's just stood. Does it do it when driving though?
