yesterday, I managed to fulfil a 9 year plan, by getting my nova running, legal & looking pretty ok. then I drove to the Nat day in it. I bought a door from Adam, and realised I would have to make a trip home to drop the kids off, then go back for it. on the way back, I did a 120mile detour just for the hell of it, & IT WAS GREAT!!!!!!

whats the furthest you've driven just for the pleasure of the drive??????

I think the furthest I've gone along just 'for the sake of it' was about 300 miles lol There have been so many times I've been with mates and decided a random drive was on the cards, i don't remember the furthest. Feels good alone though, I turned my phone off too :p

i've also spent today trying to convince a workmate (who owns a mg rover 25 zr type thing) that a drive can be pleasureable, and he claimed that he has never just driven, ever, for no reason!!!!!, he also claimed to have never driven a car fast enough to need to just hang on & hope for the best....... I offered to get him help

I used to do this allll the time, Waking up at 3 - 4 am on a weekday just to take the corsa for a blast around the moors. head back home, shower and then off to work just for the hell of it

I also used to randomly drive to wales a hell of a lot, do the welsh roads and back home again. we once drove to scotland once for a random drive from manchester. Also done the **** it lets get down to Saf'end road trip see whats happening down there. Some of these trips have ended up in the best nights out ever. Some of the OLD skool cruises we randomly went to were also awesome but these were planned not off the hook.

my missus trained as a nurse in oxford about 20 years ago & i lived 75 miles away, and the motorways weren't built, so I used A roads (no gatsos, cops only had speedos & luck etc) some nights the drive was better than the date!!
my record was 55 minutes door to door in a 1200 merit.. at 2-2.55am. I'd never dare to try and repeat it, even though i've got 50more hp

drove to plenty of places on a last minute desisions before just for the hell of it. went to blackpool to get a can of pop at half 1 at night looked at the sea for 5 minutes n come back, whent to denbigh in north wales 1day to an old mental asylum just for a walk around inside. weve been on countless random journeys just for the hell of it.

gotta agree with lynz driving on your owns the allways the best.
i drove home alone from newquay at 3am when my mrs was going into labour, june the 28th id only just managed to get the car ready for p.v last year. and was still getting used to it. i was driving through blackshaw moor thinking "god i hope ive built this properly" "i hope i rembered to tighten that up..", "i did definatly fit that properly... right?", dont want anything going wrong now of all times.
one wicked drive though!!

i know what you mean, playing 'did it make that noise before' at speed is not the best thing to do

I've made the odd random trip down to the Lizard, about 300 miles or so round trip. I've also done Poole > Honiton loop a few times when bored.

Used to take random drives all the time when I had the 1.2, and early in Celica ownership, but petrol got expensive and driving to Cheltenham every weekend sucked up my mileage/fuel allowance :(

Braemar lol it's only 50 miles away, never really just driven somewhere. Will need to try it sometime.

Ive done short drives, never very long, usualy due to fuel lol

I think the most i dont was a 150 mile round trip.

PS: I always play the new noise game, my car makes a different noise everytime i go out.

My mate used to do hundreds of miles circling local town centres looking for races literally hundreds of circuits of Chorley in a Cadburys Purple 2.1 Nova with 17" blue wheels getting pulled every 5 mins off the police lol they were the days funny back then we were 17, it was all fun, nowadays couldnt even afford the petrol.

It not a deluxe dew to no chrome trim or the holes for it.
Its just a 15 window micro bus.

not sure how far iv been on my own but have had some random drives. me and my mate used to get his nova out at midnight and just drive for hours and try and get lost lol always ended up in wales or as north as we could be bothered to.

the most random thing we saw on our travels was at a service station at 4am. an asian guy parked up, got a mat out and prayed in the middle of the car park :wtf:

Newcastle - Paris and back within 24 hours lol that was with a mate although I did about 1200 miles of the driving IIRC.

On my own, Scotland, London etc. We live on a tiny island. Nowhere is that far IMO lol
