is it easy to change the outer cv joint?how much should i pay for a gargae to do it if i dont do it myself and how badly does it affect the sterring on turning i get a bad knocking noise so i know its gone but will theaffect the car driving staright make it pull to one side etc...?????????????

with a decent tool set, i think you should be able to do it in an hour......
A garage would probably stuff you on the price...
maybe you could stick a s/hand shaft in quicker.

Slacken the hub nut . Jack it up, support with a stand, remove the wheel, undo the bottom ball joint, and pull on the hub. That should remove the inner cv from the g box. then undo the hub nut and knock the outer cv from the hub. Remove the gaiter, and then pop the retaining clip out. clean everything up really well and fit a new cv joint. buy the best you can afford.

the cv won't affect the steering much unless it fails catastrophically under power, cos the flailing shaft will rearrange a lot of the underside of your car.
