Is changing the crank rear oil seal a 'gearbox out' job?

The oil has found it's way as far as the starter ring gear, but not as far as the clutch.... fortunately.

you need to clean out the breather filter..... too much crankcase pressure causes the ohc engine to leak like a sieve....

it might be possible to take the clutch & flywheel out and leave the box in, but it will be a lot easier to take the box out & have room to work

as above
and its a 2 minute job to change the crank seal
if you have something to pull it out with

Thanks. Ah yes, I see the breather/separator lurking under the manifold, potato size and shape. Will pop the hose off and see it's 'chuffing'
