been going mad today getting the top lenses off of my rear lights. the plan is to use the red tops of the factory lamps on my clear rears what a nightmare of a job!!! i started today on one of them tryed using a heatgun but the glue is solid!! wont losen. so i went around the edges cutting the black plastic with a jig saw..so far so good. but then after prising most of it off i broke the corner of the lens :( not impressed. has anyone done this mod before i have seen it on here but just wandered how you may have done it? maybe make my life easier lol

I did some half red, half clears. Put them in the oven and removed the lense that way.
I wouldn't do it again though, they look just as good with a set of clear's half spray tinted red, and its much less effort.

Oven on a low heat is the best way, Or use tinting spray, but i find its a bit poo and fades fast. I did a pair of my clean in the bodyshop with house of kolour candy paint, lights are prob worth about £200 now...

Really? Hok are one of the worlds best custom paint maker.
All us custom builders use it. We had a customer at the bodyshop i used to work at having his TT paint kandy red, as its a trazlossent (sp?) (see thru) paint its perfect for tinting lights. But at all one £300 alt its not cheap.

Tint spray will keep them legal as the reflector will be red

I see where your coming from but I'll do anything to not give them an excuse to pull me, I worry everytime I see them and wonder what made up tale there going to use to warrant stopping me, they have used the old tale that Novas used to be an easy car to steal and they just wanted to check it wasn't stolen. I mean there are only three Novas round here and I own two of them and the other is driven by a coffin dodger .lol This leads me to believe it isn't still the number one choice for the local twok'ers

all of the ones i have seen with the red top half have been done with tint spray, i dont think the original lights will come apart without sumat breaking.
Ive had clear rear lights in the past and theyve let the clear reflector parts pass on mot

Warming them up should make the glue soft. So they should come apart.

i sacrificed a set of standard lamps cut the tops out then prised out the top clears cutting and cleaning off the debris that was left behind. keep on trial fitted the reds until they fit properly.

They are the best thing you can do imo Pete. Always liked that style they make the car look a bit more modern they did one Raymonds anyway. You've just got to re-do them occationally as the red tint fades over time
