xe no spark. help??

trying to get my early dizzy type c20xe to spark after putting the engine in. it turns over fine but im not getting a spark. i have got a ignition live and permanent live. i have put a plug and lead in the coil output but no spark when turning. if i connect i live 12v feed to the black with red trace going into the amp under the coil the plug sparks. this must mean my coil is capible of supplying a spark. is there any way of checking sensors/relays or anything stopping it sparking.

is the fuel pump relay clicking?

are you getting fuel? or just no spark?

Cam hall sensor in dizzy, or crank sensor at the bottom/front of the engine block..

I had same probs... running fine now

sounds like crank sensor mate. you can test your coil pack with a multi metre and if you search on google theres some pages explaining how. all you would then need is a great big book in your local bosch supliers shop which has the propper readings for your coil.

i had a second hand crank sensor put in unsure of its condition. fuel pump rerlay is clicking. and also got a second hand hall sensolr and dizzy. will look for the reading the coil is supposed to be and thry that.

it will still run even if the hall sensor is disconnected...

usefull info. that eliminates the hall sensor then. starting to think its a duff ecu. anyone have any pin data on the ecu or know what pin/wire the switch to the amp/coil is?????

if yours is early xe dizzy type its ecu will be motronic m2.5 and the 55 pins on the ecu loom plug pin 1 is ignition signal to coil.

sparking problem sorted. replaced the dizzy + hall sensor and im now getting spark on all 4 pots. thanks for everones advice.
new problem is that injector 1,2,3 are not squirting. 4 is fine. added a new post in mechanical section if anyone cares to take a look. :-)
