Hi,

picked up a c20xe nova yesterday, after a run the engine rocker cover gets hot enough to fry an egg on and on idle there is a strong tappet noise. After 30 mph the tappet noise stops. I am going to be investigating this weekend so can anyone shed any light on wheres good to start?

On checking the oil it was just above min so I am going to start by doing an oil & filter change, but can anyone shed any light on a very hot rocker cover and tappet noise on idle as anything in particular??

Forgot to mention, the car has been sitting for quite a while and has only covered 500 miles in the last 2 years

Thanks :thumb:

The tapping will be due to it sitting. They suffer with it anyway, but it should quiet down after a minute or so. My advice is do the oil & filter change, flush & renew the coolant/antifreeze, be sure the cambelt is OK (not about to snap) then go out & give it some abuse... A hard run usually quietens the lifters down.

As for the rocker.... They do get hot.
