View Full Version : removing head stud!

Any ideas, got 1 left thats being a right pain in my ****, ive tried putting couple nuts on to lock it all to gether and turn which worked on them all bar this one, mole grips, stilsons, no luck, tried screaming and shouting and still in there, whats next plan of attack? Its a big long bugger and need to fit short ones on.

*Edit* Also tried shocking it!

weld something to it maybe a nut or even a long bar for leveregd (sp)

heat it up, should just coem out with moles if u dont need it cos it will get munched.

put a nut on it, tack the nut, then undo :)

or if no welder, cemical metal FTW

lol lol lol "boo" that has managed to lighten my mood, you can have some rep! lol

but **** knows why didnt think about welding the nut on, so simple! Ahhh but ive run out of gas!

easy solution mate.

get a set of vice grips ie realy good molegrips and have them tighter than closeable then close them anyway with every little bit of strenght you have! one hand on each lever fingers out the way, elbows at 90degs etc. when you close them like this it will flatten the bolt slightly cos them vicegrips are so good.

now bash the molegrips firmly tightening and then the same in the other direction. if you tighten first then you are far less likely to break the stud! this will deffinately work unless it breaks in and then youve a whole different problem which is still easily solved with basic tools

^^^very true, I find sometimes tightening a nut/screw just a little does work.

One of those little stud pullers,(usually operate from a 1/2 inch drive) that has an eccentric thing inside that locks onto the stud as you turn it.

If the exposed stud is long you might have to shorten it to use one of these, as the 'torque twist' along the length would work against you.
