hi everybody, im after some basic advice about classic insurance

once my 1991 1.4 sr is built i want to obviusoly get it insured

i am already fully comp on my daily my intention was to get my dad to insure the nova as a second car perhaps? and him being the named driver and i can then drive the nova tpt&t as my insurance allows me to drive any other car that is insured and with permission from the owner

will this work and what way would be best/cheapest to go about it

could my dad insure it as a classic but i drive it tpf&t or once he is classic i would have to be 21+ etc?

i havent enquired yet but im just doing some research beofre i ring around for quotes

what would you do? lollol

Classic car policies are reserved for classic cars where the vehicle is kept in a garage with limited milage, little of no modifications, car is only used as a second vehicle, usually restricted to over 25 etc etc

Getting you dad to insure your car is called fronting is is illegal. You are also somewhat restricted by your choice of companies due to your Northern Ireland loaction.

You would have to have the nova in your dads name, allong with the insurance, then technically you can drive it on your own insurance as long as you've checked the small print and you can drive other cars. This is a bit of a legal loophole / very grey area tho and I personally know people who have been investigated for doing this as in theory you could insure a mini fully comp and drive your "dads" evo!

As SkyInsurance says, except you don't HAVE to have it garaged.

My Nova's on a Classic Policy, but the garage is full of Carlton (also on a classic policy)

Don't confuse limited mileage with classic; they're similar but not the same.

As Ollie says, proper classic polices are quite restrictive (some insurance companies even have a restricted list of cars that they consider "classics"... needless to say a Nova wouldn't feature on them lol), so its usually better to tailor a limited mileage policy to suit your needs.

ok.......thanks for the info and the "fronting", i cant honestly see why it is illegal if you are fully comp and allowed to drive other car and my dad simply owns a nova im very fond off

the car will do very little milage as it will only be drove in the dry hence why i think a limited milage policy may suit me better

thanks so far

my friend does this he has a clio sport 172 to insure it by itself was 2000 pounds, he bought a cheap runaround for 200 pound insure it fully comp for 900 and being aloud to drive any other car 3rd party as long as its fully comp so he insured his dad on the clio for 240 pounds

works out 660 pounds cheaper and hes always got a cheap runabout if the clio ever brakes which it does lol

Who insures the clio then?! Your mate certainly isn't insured to drive it!
