rite just picked up my xe and mate built it up with out the head gasket. would it be alrite to run it with out it or is that a no no as i realy havnt got the time to strip it down and rebuild it.
your mate wants slapping across the back of his head! what was he thinking. lol
get the head off and get a gasket on there. no doubt you'll possibly be looking to have it skimmed to so the head face is flat!

he sounds a good mate. i wud find the time cos if you dont it will end in tears, headgaskets are therer for a reason, ^^^ and follow philips advice on geting it skimmed and pressure tested.
If hes bolted the bare ally face down to the block, chances are it's gonna have damaged the head in some way.
never know either if heads been skimmed mega amounts, if without gasket valves tocuh pistons?( not tto sure on clearances before anyone give a deffinate answer to that comment) lol

thats pv out the window then
owell off with the head and full gasket change then
it would take 2days tops to do matey. get a headset, then take head to be skimmed, only take hour or so to skim if do it there and then.
have faith, and same time shoot ya 'mate'

iv got the head set and bolts already as my mate works for a motor factors in there warehouse so every think is free lol
but atm im skint till i get another job in and that takes time plus i need to get the bay cut out for the alternator and another bottom pulley on a single v etc etc so lots of work with little time and i dont want to rush it and fook it up cause then everythink would be pointless

well im going to strip it all down as soon as i can and get it all built back up with a skimmed head.
then get everythink sorted and do it all properly like my mate should have done it in the first place. :thumb:

i have heard of these before, but only on high powered, high spec motors that have had both the block and head ground down completely flat... but an average build is not really acceptable to do this... i wouldnt feel safe with that engine if he has forgotten something as fundemental as that! what else is it missing? gudgeon pin? valve spring seats?

i think you mate must have smoking some sweet cheeba or something i had had to read that twice as i though i was imagining things lol
If your "mate" has built you this engine and has forgot to put a H/G on there is no way I'd be going to the trouble of putting it in a car without first taking it to bits and finding out what else he's "forgot" to put on / tighten up!

he didnt build the engine for me he just took the head off but never got round to doin anythink to it so just bolted the head back down with no head gasket
im stripping the engine down and changing everythink anyway so nothing to worry about
