Ok im going to use my air compressor at home to coat my engine bay with etch primer, do i need to remove all old seam sealer or can i spray over the top?

Also can anyone offer advice on mixing and spraying techniques ?

im using Chromate free 2 pack etch primer, then going to cover that with black hammerite, hammered finish.

any help and suggestions are very welcomed.

1 get a data sheet for the paint/primer as they are all a bit different.
Most alot of primers are 2/1/1.

2 you can leave the sealent.

the etch primer will have on the tin the formulation to how its mixed mate, is your engine bay bare metal? as thats only time etch primer is needed, if you are just painting over old paint no need for an etching primer. painting over sealer as ben says is fine as long as its rubbed down and de greased of muck and oil or any paint wont stick. are you spraying the hammerite on aswell?

As said above etch primer not really needed, unless its bare metal. Normal primer will be fine. I did mine with areosol and Hammerite through gun/compressor.

IMO smooth finish would be a better choice.

it will be 80% bare metal due to me making sure their is no hidden rot, then adding the plates, the servo move ect, hence why i used etch primer.

Im the going to use a gun with the hammerite after that :)
