I clicked on a link a minute ago from a post with a video on photobucket, and on the top of the photobucket page it said this:

I would imagine its to do with the http referrer or something. Basically photobucket knows you have come from this site due to clicking a link on this site.

Yes, photobucket uses referrals. In Firefox you can turn this off, google for how to do it.

The reason WHY they monitor the source of incoming hits: it helps them find dodgy content. They have a greylist of particular websites which are known to host adult or amatuer content, and when these start linking through to particular images, the PB staff check out the image - 9/10 its likely to be an adult image which contravenese their T&Cs. This is why Pbucket seem to TOS dodgy pics so quick.

So for example. You're nosing the forums on adultmonkeysexamatuerphotobucketsforum.com; you see a link to a pic or bucket, and follow it in the hope to see some adult amatuer monkey sex. Your browser tells photobucket where you came from, which matches a known site on a list. PB staff are alerted, who then check out the image, find some adult amatuer monkey sex and TOS all the violating images from that bucket (cynics will say they then add that pb user to a bad list and keep an eye on the bucket for future adult amatuer monkey sex pics). Simples.
