I'm currently "playing" with the Nova, as the thermostat needs replacing.

As you know it's timing belt off. Never played with a timing belt, so it's been interesting (in a good way) however while the cars was on axle stands i decided to take all four wheels off (not at the same time) and give the backs a good clean.

I know Wonder Wheels is nothing new, and TBH i hate the stuff as it's too corrosive, but i needed it's "power" to shift what a believe to be 17 year old road/brake crap.

So from this.

I'm well happy. :D

Next step's getting the rear spoiler as red as the rest of the car. lol

And not bad, i did the same to mine the otherday bit of gunk and a pressure washer bought them up great.

You ain't going to get to the thermostat housing bolts without

Agree, 16Se is a belt off job.

Wheels look fab. get some polish & then wax on there to seal the stripped/acid cleaned finish against the elements.

Yes you do on all ohc 8v vaux engines as the stat is behind the cambelt cover so its belt and cam pulley off to swap it:roll:

Word, mouth. Gay design really.

Aye it is, typically that era of engine is a joy to work on. Clutch access on boxes etc. Pert of the reason Vauxhall gained massive popularity after nearly being sold off. Simple mechanicals.

Certainly 1.2/1.3 carb you dont need to. Didnt think about the 1600's.

I know on 1200spi's you need to remove the cambelt though.

I think you need to buy a 8 valve engine again lol and replace the 1.4 16v.

I know i did a 1200 without removing the belt, i remember fighting with it so i didnt have to remove the belt.

And ive done it twice.

Cos the rear cover is in 3bits.

and i did the thermostat on my 13sb by just taking the belt cover off, belt stayed in place, two 13mm's and done in less than half an hour.

edit--if you dont believe me i'll drag my engine to png national day and do it there

edit2--second thoughts, sod trying to lift the engine in my car...
