Hi,

Can anyone tell me the reasons why sunroofs are a no no for building trackday cars?

Thanks

Hole in the roof causes extra flex. I wouldnt say it was a no no, IMO. Mine has a sunroof and will be used on track....

some cages dont fit if a sunroof is present, my nova has a safety devices 6 point cage and sunroof has been removed to allow fitment of it and replaced with carbonfibre panel.

Actually, surprisingly, it lessens roof flex.

Main reasons not to have one include if you DO roll the car, you don't want the glass to shatter and cover you. Plus the extra weight of the glass and mechanism, as well as the aforementioned cage fitments.

Really? Is this because the sunroof gubbins is bolted in hence less flex??

the folds in the roof and the extra strength of the bolted up parts all help to stop the flex. IIRC the previous megane 225 cup could not have the glas roof as it stiffened the shell too much and caused theglass to break.

its only frowned upon due to the risks with rolling over. :thumb:

Another reason for not having a sunroof is you'll be banging you're helmet against it if you're over 5'10", especially if it's one of the rarely working tilt and slide ones.

Mines got a sunroof, but its an aftermarket fit one, so it only tilts.
SD cage fits fine
