Im having yet another argument about the sound of engines. And imo its nothing more i like to here then a set of throttle bodies sucking away. but then other people say they like the sneezing of a turbo. So this is a poll to see the % of what people like more. Vote away :thumb:

I have had a turbo before and dont get me wrong the sound is great, but when you compere it to bodies the is just nothing in it, bodies will always excel over the sound of a turbo

TB's all the way for me - Nothing like the sound of them or old Carbs!

Mind you the noise of a Turbo boosting away sounds good but no match for TB's etc :D

Then dont run one ;) I dont have one, the turbo chatter sounds the nuts. Even though its not meant to be good for it, i couldnt care less when i let off the go button

Turbo for me aswell!

It's not like a dump valve is optional or anything!

Turbo all the way! Faaaaarrr more torque, quicker up a drag-strip & quieter typically (though can still sound awesome).

Sadly can be a bit less reliable.

TB's are the best option on track cars however, due to the predictability on throttle mid bend etc & longer gear range a high revving engine will offer. Very loud & anti-social though. Not to mention the extra wear higher revs create.

after having both the turbo and carbs in mine id have to say turbo, the xe on carbs sounded the muts and the dump valve can be anoying but imo the extra power and torque are amazing so id go turbo

Yes but were not on about power or speed. this is just on sound. id rather drive a 1.3 t40 or on tb's then a big 2ltr turbo round town :)

dumpvalve AND chatter? lol

I'm gonna go with undecided myself, the sound of a set of TB's burbling away is awesome, but a seriously high power turbo just makes the kind of sound that makes you think satan just woke up in the exhaust manifold (and has a cold), and his alarm wasn't due to go off for another hour. TB's are a fighter jet, turbo is a nuclear bomb lol

turbo all the way, nice and stealthy till ya plant the loud button down and get 30 psi firing ya down the road with big flames popping out the screamer pipe, miles better than tb's imo

Throttle bodies FTMFW, Mates car has them on (Stripped out drag/road car) and when he took me out in it i got wet, very very wet, Only downside is at high revs it is very very loud, had to cover my ears at one point as it echos inside the car.

I voted Burgo because I prefer the noise from a turbo's small engine, or tb'd/carbed big one.

Jack

6 cylinders or GTFO

Of the two, hmm. I loved the noise of Ernie's track car screaming up and down the road when he took me for a ride (oo-er), but I also like how my Celica sounds like a tornado when on WOT.

I'd probably err towards the TBs for roaring power rather than the sucking of a turbo... BUT you can't beat 6 cylinder goodness. Full throttle and firing all 6 at max chat is the best sound EVAR

Oh, and LOL at all the chavtastic dv and "wastegate chatter" comments lol

Tough choice, but i voted for turbos. IMO, i would rather have a car that has some progressive power, rather than a slap in the face of a turbo. Having said that i have been in a few turbo'd cars, my mates FQ EVO 8 comes to mind, and that is **** the bed quick!!

At every single rally event I have been to the best sounding cars are usually the Mk1/2 Escorts, all are NA.
F1 engines sound emmence and they are NA.
All the best sounding engines are NA.

So it's not a question turbo or NA (TB's) but rather how many cylinders!

v12 FTW

Dunno... the Meteor was pretty gay sounding compared to the Merlin... Just about the only time F/I wins!

Steam engines also sound good, but we are talking automotive options.
and the Rover with the Meteor engine in dosen't count! Or Lee's Vito.

Is it me or does that master cylinder on the V6 (mk1 Astra??) look LARGE?

Theres a few comments of smack in the face power delivery from turbo's. A correctly chosen charger would provide lag free performance if desired. Many people chase lots of PSi & big numbers so end up with a peaky delivery, something you will always have from a smaller engine chasing big engine output figures.

In an ideal world, I'd have a different Nova for each day of the week, so choosing n/a or boost is merely a matter of when, not if. LOL
