I had my car put on the rolling road at novatech last week.. It has a full Powerflow exhaust system with original GSi manifold as everyone said keep it.. and it has a Pipercross air filter which TV said gave that engine 10.5 BHP i think...

Anyways put it on and it only produced 98 BHP!!! :? As standard they produce 100BHP?? it is a K reg and only done 34,000 GENUINE MILES!!! WHAT IS GOING ON PLEASE HELP!!!

:( cheers people... :(

they produce 101 - 102 BHP as standard AT THE FLYWHEEL.

where was your figure from?

It was taken from the wheels... but people always say that they have GSi that are producing around 125BHP!!! mine is no where near that!! :x

if yout put twin 40s on it might pruduce 125@the wheels. you get a fiar loss throught tranmission. you would probably get 112-115bhp at the fly which is correct for your mods!!

perhaps check the timing? dizzy and cambelt etc etc?

or maybe even a compression test to make sure eveything is in good working order?

that sounds like a fair amount, i would question the boys saying they got 125 at the wheels with basic mods.

For a little comparison the XR2i is only 83BHP

Yes true.. but still loads of the feature cars on websites including this one have GSi's with the injection as opposed to the carbs running at 125BHP!! argh i want to go quicker!!!

The thing is that when peoples cars go on the rollers when the bloke gives the readout he will tell you the figure at the wheels and at the flywheel but people being what they are just listen to the highest figure. So they will be about the same as yours really.

Sometimes the equipment isnt set up correct so if you are that bothered about the figures take it to another garage and get them to give you a reading.

Bhp isnt everything at the end of the day, you can make your car go faster by stripping the interior and losing weight and that costs nothing, in fact makes you money as you can sell it. This is far mopre econmical than worrying about 4-5BHP.

beware of rolling road results, they are only a guide as no 2 rolling roads are the same, same are wayy over and some read low. Some places might even slip the clutch just to get a slightly better figure and make the customer so happy he returns every time etc etc. Also remember that company's list a bhp/max bhp gain. to get this you need to do more than just bolt it on, like put a head on etc etc cos if you just add up what everyone says, it will just be a maxpower figure and not a true one

Its on the road that counts not what you think/been told you have. if it feels faster then it prob is.

dont u listen?
people on here who say they got 125bhp got that at the fly. you dont even know what u got at the fly it might of been that amount but with u not knowing how much u lost before it got to the wheels we canot coment really!!

yeah ok then.. if its any indication i have sat on the back of an Escort RS turbo van and an RS turbo Escort.. they are quick.. i couldn't overtake but i stayed with them and they were booting it.. does that sound quick??

cheers for all info lads!!

seen as very few rs turbos are standard you would need to say if they are modded and if so what mods. to stay with a std rs turbo its gotta be pretty quick anyways.

thats what i thought!!
anyway.. what cn i do to the engine to make it quicker?? i want to stay with the injection and NOT put carbs on!! so what else is there?? cheers

does it havea cat? if so get that off straight away. Is it bosch injection? If so get it chiped. U can probly pick up a chip for ?50 which increses the rv limit by 200-400rpm and you get a few more bhp. I fitted 1 and noticed the diference. A performance cam would cost around ?200-?250 all in and would get you another 8-10bhp. After that a good tuneup might be in order, get your timing spot on!!

it doesn't have a cat and it is siemens ecu u can get that chipped too right?? where on this earth can u get a chip for ?50??? yeah i was thinking of a fast road cam what about eco tec valves and power boost valves??

Dicko

i got a 'cloned' powerchip for ?40. But iv herd people havig problems of geting seimens chips. not sure though.
dont bother with power boost valve!!
upto you on ecotek valve i think they work ok but other people disagree

whats the difference in a cloned ecu... compared to a normal chipped ecu?? i have a bosch ECU that has been chipped which i am selling... where can i get a cloned chip for that money???

Dicko

well you find somebody that has the equipment to program blank chips. and its just a matter of making a copy of the chip. The person that did mine did me a copy for ?40.

I'm running a gsi k & n four in 1 manifold head skimmed and polished magnex back box, and eco value and i went on the rollers a couple of weeks ago and told him to do me 2 print outs one at the wheels and one at the fly wheel

The one at the wheels 126bhp
The one at the fly wheel 145bhp

Dicko
29-01-03, 06:44 PM
if u went on calibrated rllers mate you would be lucky to see 126@the fly never mind at the wheels!!!!
this is what we mean when we say some places RR are way out!!

there's only ever one way of finding out really how quick your car is I think, go down the 1/4 in full road trim, same whels as you use on road etc. dont strip out interior then you know for sure EXACTLY where you are.

I havnt been down the strip, havnt had the opportunity yet, that's just what I think

mikeoxford

IIRC the different ecus arent interchangeable........

you'd at most need the loom and the ecu from a bocsh car

everything else should be the same
