I've seen a few vid's kickin about lately with vaux's with saab turbo motors, whats the crack? people say there cheaper than a LET and easier to tune so why are there soooo few about? If they bolt to a f20 then there'd only be the front mount to make and that only leaves the wiring???????

many of the saab engines use same blocks as vauxhall engines with exact same mounting points i know because nearly bought a saab v6 engine once for a conversion all that was diffrent to the vauxhall set up was the inlet and ecu. im looking for a saab griffin 3.0 v6 turbo engine as we speak wot is going into a freinds mk4 astra so they can be worked with as you say mount and wiring and your away. the saab griffin 3.0v6 is a low blow turbo and have also seen these in vauxhalls a few times a mk3 astravan springs straight to mind.

the link i posted is a mk3 van with a saab turbo lump. I honestly can't understand why this conversion isn't used more often! can someone tell me what engine I would need to bolt to an f20 and go in my nova as there's a few different ones.

yer mate ive also seen a grey mk3 astra van with saab turbo engine in quite recently aswel on internet. any of the saab 2.0, 2.2, 2.5 and 3.0 engines will bolt up to a vauxhall big block gearbox.they have same bell housing pattern due to being same blocks. most the saabs have chip key imobilised ecus so for a conversion you wud need the lot to make it run in a nova ie full loom, ecu, chip key and transponder from the same car.

the engines are too tall too fit in the corsa bay iirc.

no their not they fit fine and the 3 litre v6 only difference is the chip key and the inlet is the same just with a saab badge as i used it on my conversion.

they do go into the corsa b shells, but the sump needs cutting and making shallower, and the chassis leg needs a fair bit cutting out of it, like the nova xe alt cut-out. the bonnet strengthener ribs do need trimming aswell. the engine you need is a post 1993 engine, as these bolt to a f20.

If the blocks are the same then is it not possible to use a 20xe sump?

you can pick a full 2.3 turbo car up for 150 quid mot failure the cab will see a valver this summer then i will venture into a 2.3 turbo and see whats involved,
so people are saying a f20 will bolt straight up then?

^^^^^
on a certain range of these engines, the f20 will fit as they use a GM block, that's the reason I'm considering doing 1 ;)

no, you misunderstand, the saab uses the gm bellhousing pattern, the block is saabs own design. its far stronger than an xe block. i would avoid the 2.3 in a small car, tbh you can see 500bhp from the 2.0 and they rev better. the 2.3 is all about torque for big barge like saab 9000's.

sounds like a good challenge to get one fitted and tweaked and see the results
