yes, socket extension and lots of ****ing about. Edit: Your only need to do this if the box hasnt got a cover plate.

Dunno what way you are doing it but the only time I've replaced a clutch is when the engine/gearbox out of the car. Gearbox off engine.. obviously take old clutch off...

I had a clutch tool but couldn't figure out how to use it lol, so I done it this way (which was straight forward, quick and easy):

The way I done it was I lined the new clutch up by eye. Once I thought I had it right, I tightened the retaining bolts ever so slightly (just to hold it), then slid the gearbox on, so then I knew it was ok as the input shaft went in ok, so I slid the gearbox off again very very carefully so as not to disturb the clutch, and then I tightened the retaining bolts for the clutch.

lol pretty much fella, if your gearbox has an inspection plate beside the fly wheel, leave the bolts loose so the clutch plate is floating, slide you gearbox on and then nip the bolts up after pieces of piss fella

Tbh i find alingment tools a waste of time, I just "feel" the friction plate into place using the tips of my fingers against the edge of the pressure plate.

if u can get it centralized enough for the input shaft on the box to take to it, wouldnt it centralize itself properly the first time u press down the clutch ?

If its on the input shaft, its centralised ;).
