gsi engine getting warm

hi i have just fitted a e16se engine into my sr and it gets warm quickly then nearly boils over the water. the engine hasnt been using any water so i think its not head gasket. could this be because im still using the sr rad and not a gsi one.any help would be gratefull thanks jack:thumb:

Have you checked thermostat? And bled out any air in coolant?

Does heater blow hot?

either stat or the expansion bottle cap needs swapping
