pull the dizzy off spin the slot around and try again, before the do that, have you set the ignition timing ?

ignition timing?? the cam and crank are lined up

General Baxter

yes the dizzy spin on its self,

if you look at the cam holder next to the dizzy there will be a little engraved line, this needs to line up on a little line on the dizzy, then slightly adjust to find the sweet spot :)

oh sorry yeah i even know that lol sorry been a long night
so could that be the reason it not sitting flush like the dizz wont go into the hole still has like 2mm till it would be in it goes in on one side with grips like

you should feel the dizzy clicking in to place and there should be no gap..

it can take a bit of playing around to get it in, i usually line slot up and just turn back and forwards a little to get it right in..

but as i say you will know when its in right..should pop in and you should be able to turn the dizzy easily to line it up with mark on cam carrier.

i had this same prob on mine not so long ago, minus the exhaust pop, mine wasnt doing anything.

to set it up: take the dizzy off before you start, and turn the engine over by hand on the crank pulley bolt, line the crank and cam timing marks up so there both in synch on the markings, then you wanna install the dizzy in roughly the position it sits when its on normally (with the saucer thing topside) and you wanna have the rotor arm pointing at plug no. 1 and make sure it stays roughly in position as you offer the dizzy into place (no.1 is north-east/diagonally up-right as your looking at the cam/dizzy side on. like greg said youll feel it click into place and youll have to hold it in place under slight pressure of the spring as you get the clamp and bolt in to secure it in place, should fire up straight away if youve done it right, pinch the nut up fairly tight, but not so tight as to lock it down, as youll need to rotate the dizzy from left to right to finalize the timing. rotating it towards the front bumper retards the timing, rotating it towards the windscreen advances the timing, youll want it roughly inbetween the 2 points you feel are at the ends of the scale of those 2 fronts, possibly slightly on the advanced side helps sometimes.

ah ha it was most certainly the dizzy timing, took dizzy off turned it 180degrees tightened back up and started first click lol.

thanks very much saved me setting fire to a pretty good nova lol
