Look at the rail... The high feed from the pump goes into the rail & effectively the regulator blocks the return. You should see which outlet comes out og the reg.
I'll look at one in the shed & give the definitive answer...

As the two metal rail pipes pass back under the inlet runners, the upper one is the return.

Ok mate cheers.
Any tips for plugging the loom all in too? I started to get the red mist so stopped before i broke things...
Last engine i had to bits was a 1400SR so its a tad different.

Theres a loom plug with approx 6 or 7 wires.
Red/blue trace needs to run out back to the +ve pump terminal.
Black switched Live.
Red perm live
Green Rev counter (to clocks)
Blue Temp gauge
+ an earth.
Just double check with a search. Pretty sure I'm correct.
Prolly & EML (ecu light) wire on there too. Wire it to the choke lamp on the dash if you want to.

It was all wired up and running, but that engine seized so its just a case of plugging connectors in that i took off! But im getting mad!!
Should be a case of just laying the wiring over the engine and then working out where each connection is.

Its mainly down the back of the engine with the likes of the alt and starter thats confusing me.
God i hate cars.
Starter is red/black iirc and alternator is blue/white, both should only have 1 spare connection.

Is/should there be a wire joining the two +ve terminals on the alt and starter or was this pre-bodged? To be fair, alot of this car has been very bodged so i could be sorting other people mistakes....
Yer thats right, tis how it charges.

LOL.
It's easy when you know how. Baffling when you don't.
