Right i.m picking up a redtop at the weekend and i went for a spin last night and the tappet's are very loud. I.m guessing this is due to the hydrolic lifter's being gone?

Is it a cheap easy fix?

Is there any thing else that will be in need of replacement?

Regards jimbo

What were they like once the engine was warm? Maybe low oil? Oil and filter change first off, might help? At worst will need a rebuild of the head.

Its just as loud when its warm to when you just start it up.

Thinking about the oil the engine has a sandwich plate and oil cooler fitted just wandering if this could be starving the head of oil.

Well i will be taking the engine out on sat and i will buy it no matter what as i.m getting it cheap.

If its been sat a while the lifters can take ages to pump up. If they dont they are probably fubarred, but as said, change the oil and filter first after a good flush, and give it another blat.

Lifters in valvers are incredibly easy to chage, the hardest part is getting them out. A sucker on a stick normally does the job :)

when we first started my engine it took a good 20 minutes and a blast up the road for the very noisey tapping went. but since then its very quiet even when first starting it!
