I want to paint my skirts black, as they are orange at the moment, and i wanna break up the orangeness.....
Whats the best way of doing this?
It will probably be with rattle cans...... Eeeeek!

nitro mors, works a treat, when i had some painted ones i just put them on and stripped it right down and repainted, works well

Should i not 'key' the surface then paint over the original paint?
Standard skirts? Nitromors might damage the plastic. Best bet is to give them a good rub down and paint on top a few layers of black

just give the surface a sand to key it. prime, wet & dry, colour, laquer! key to get a shine.... warmth. chech my wheel refurb thread

^ as said above avoid nitromorse as can melt into the lastic and wreck them, also if theyre on car nitromorse will cause a right old mess running and dripping alover and burn you in the process no doubt and cud get onto the carbody and take that paint off aswell ( nitromorse takes no prisoners ), if they already painted it simple enuf just get sum red scotch brite and give the existing paint surface a good key down until the shine has gone, then clean any dirt or grease off with panel wipe and apply a few nice light even coats until theyre all coverd and your happy.
just rub them with wet and dry paper p800, degrease then paint on top. there is no need to strip them

if the paint isnt flaking that you are going to paint on just get some red scotch brite and scuff them up and paint doesnt need any more than that :)

no nitromours will not damage the side skirts as i used it on all plastic bits, and yes you can key the surface and respray but due to the paint underneath it can ripple and not be completely smooth and the lines down the middle wont be so deep because the paint will be thicker, I know its not one of thoose things to really concern over just i used to paint cars and i get picky when it comes to spraying things! lol

i recently painted mine, i cleaned them with warm water, dried, then sanded with p1200, twice over, then grey primer, rub down again with p1200, grey primer, then few coats of black E266 ( diamond black ) with p1500 in between, an at the end lacquer as said to give it that shine, 2 coats mine got.
i've pics of them as they sit, have yet to put them on the car, currently spraying my gsi front an rear bumpers at the min
