NovaLad

& to fit a new fan switch at the same time and hopefully that will solve my overheating.

To say my head gasket has gone i'm over joyed :)

Umm, youre wondering why it wont start/run but you know the headgasket has gone, id say theres your problem there then especially as its been overheating, its probably sludged up too much to run now so get it fixed ya big mincer lol

Jack
05-05-09, 06:34 PM
Hang on, in your other thread you said the head gasket had gone? That could cause problems. lol

Well thats why as its clearly got to the point where its too sludged up inside to run anymore you plum theres your problem if its been gone/overheating for a very long time:roll:

Page 1 mofo :p

You drove it around with it overheating? Did that not indicate something was wrong? Probably find the gasket went ages ago, hence the overheating, but as said its only now just gunked up enough for it to start being a problem.

Tis only a 1.2, head gasket can be done quite easily for little cost though :)

He could not hear it overheaing for the bass.

m.o.t possibly done emission test and high revs cooks it when it overheats.

Didn't the headgasket change itself...

Head gasket failure doesn't neccesarily mean it's emulsified. I've only ever seen one emulsify on a gsi. No.4 tends to let water into the the combustion cycle, and is then burnt (steam) or just pushed out (water dripping out of exhaust etc)

(you plum spud :p lol )

Hopefully novalad, it's got that hot, the pistons have seized in the bores. Time for an xe!

In 3 years of nova ownership ive only ever been towed home once and that was when the car was smashed!! lol

Ive never broken down and been left stranded.

Get a nice 1.6 8v in there instead of old unreliable carb motor!!! :p

Even if its a new engine its not exactly hard now is it lol i think a Haynes spanner rating on swapping a 1200 is 2 spanners? lol

Exactly, rep would be coming your way if i could.

The old (rotten) SR i stripped had full vaux history and when we part stripped the engine it showed as all the bolts came undone perfectly and the waterpump had a good seal yet still fell out when we undid the three bolts:thumb:

Look after your novas and they will look after you!

Anyways.... thanks for the replies.
Cleaned stuff up like wires/plugs etc... and it's running now so tomorrow i will take advantage of this and watch riggy put the distributor in lol top guy i swear!

AlexW

Mines just unreliable due to the previours owner and it being the usual engine conversion, my old SR had about 100k on the clocks and 30k of that was on twin 40s, was a perfect runner and didnt have a problem, just a shame that the shell was rotten.

On the note of being towed it's happend about 4 times to me now. in a year and half. :(

A year and a half of nova ownership and you can't change a distributer? No wonder its trying to kill itself. Do it a favour and let it die with at least an ounce of dignity :)

You are a discrace to men everywhere, buy a crochet book, and go knit yourself some new knickers lol
