View Full Version : MDF false floor...
I'm doing a false floor with rear seats out.
How do i get the MDF to stay fixed to the car so that it doesn't rattle, move ect?
Its going to go down behind the seats aswell, how would i do this?
Any help is apperiated.
there are various ways to do it. If youre completely removing the rear seats and building a full flat area you'll probably need to build brackets/subframe to secure it. Alternatively you could cut the mdf so its such a tight fit it wont move at all! You can fill the void areas underneath with expanding foam - this helps sound deaden the floor area.
Prob best to build a wooden subframe raised slightly off the floor - secure this using the edges of the car (where the trim clicks into the side panels etc rather than drilling into the base itself) and secure the mdf using screws to that. Before securing MDF (and if youre not planning on using the voids underneath) fill with expanding foam. Make sure anywhere where the wood touches the metal theres some kind of foam cup to cushion it - thus reducing squeeky friction
Remember to leave a hatch to get at the spare wheel (if that sort of thing bothers you.
I've never dont it but thats how I'd do it

iv done it on my car and it was nasty - u dont get bass when u whack your sub on it - you just get buzzing rattling. When i have a bit more time im gona do it again i think. I think one of most important things to bear in mind is do securely fix it down. dont take the approach of cutting it too big and wedge it in so it dont move - dont really work, speaking from experience
Expanding foam is good idea do fill the gaps below, also try provide some foamy or spongey layer between the MDF and boot floor, this should again hopefully stop vibrations.
